I just got done watching this long 4 hour movie. I watched it over two days, in 2 hour increments. It's part movie, and part Documentary, about Japan's Unit 731 that ran during 1930-1945.

So what is The Last Movie You all Watched?

I love Pans Labyrinth. I saw it in a beautiful historic theater here in Portland when it was first released.

The last movie I successfully watched was the Ali G movie. Last night I tried to watch some real stinkers, first Vegas in Space (ok this movie is at least campy and absurd) then the Hillz, both of which got the gong after about 10 minutes.

Mama Mia - cause I like musicals, they make me smile
Catch and Release - I liked, though not sure what the proper category is.
The Spirit - true to genre if not actual comic... but bad, just bad. Unexpected given the cast.

Just finished watching Serenity again. It's ok, but preferred the tv show opposed to the movie. I reckon it's a great primer if you thought about watching the tv show. Followed it with 'Perfect Creature' which I enjoyed cause it had that steam-punk vibe that I like + Vampires.

I've been looking for City Of Men for a while now and can't seem to find a good copy with English subs!! I've found just every language Hardcoded except English, the nerve!! lol Time to learn my portugese, [opening Rosetta Stone]

This 1975 Canadian exploitation/shock flick still holds some shock value, even today. Producer David F. Friedman was so ashamed, that he removed his name from it.

I've seen The Wrestler and Gran Torino the last couple nights. The Wrestler was very good but I hope Gran Torino wins Best Picture this year.

Tepres, how did you like Hardcore? My favorite part is when George C Scott goes undercover and wears a Hawaiian Shirt with a bad fake wig and mustache and tries to hip up his lingo for the kids. That had me in stitches.

My hope is that they have not butchered it like they have done to other classics

I recently saw a great documentary on motorcycle racing in the US in the 1970s called On Any Sunday, directed by Bruce Brown (who also directed a surfing documentary called "The Endless Summer"). The film features various AMA racers of the day, such as Mert Lawwil, Gene Romero, Dave Aldana, Don Castro, etc. It also features Steve McQueen, who apart from being a great actor was also a great off-road motorcycle racer (he notably competed in the 1968 International Six Days Enduro in East Germany with the US team).

Even if you know nothing about motorcycling, try to see the film if you can; it's really worth it because it gives a great insight into what makes racers tick (although the bikes have changed dramatically since the early Seventies, the motivation is still the same). Here's a couple of clips from the film (thankyou, Youtube  ):

It was pretty weird, but I liked it. I wouldn't really call it a Horror movie, though. I was trying really hard to figure out if the two women running the institution were really men, or not. When you watch it, you'll think that they're men too, but I think they're really women.

I have that four pack also. They're a pretty good deal for four movies.

I was trying to find Schizo and The Confessional on torrent, earlier. But I had no luck.

How was House Of Whipcord? Other Pete Walker films I recommend are Frightmare and Schizo. I haven't seen The Confessional: House of Mortal Sin but am planning to soon.

This is what I have.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61aUeP9oYSL._SS500_.jpg

It was pretty weird, but I liked it. I wouldn't really call it a Horror movie, though. I was trying really hard to figure out if the two women running the institution were really men, or not. When you watch it, you'll think that they're men too, but I think they're really women.

I have that four pack also. They're a pretty good deal for four movies.

I was trying to find Schizo and The Confessional on torrent, earlier. But I had no luck.

At your service, kind sir.

I also enjoyed 'Breakfast on Pluto'. I thought the way it unfolded in chapters worked particularly well. Great supporting turns by Brendan Gleeson and Stephen Rea but it was Cillian Murphy's movie all the way, he's seems like a very 'versatile' actor if you will pardon the pun.

It's still early in the movie. It kinda reminds me of Texas Chainsaw Massacre crossed with a zombie flick. It's pretty good so far.

TCM/Dawn Of The Dead/Last House - tons of nods to these flicks. The guy grew up being a freak for Western Horror. You notice the Maniac poster in that guy's room? I'm going to check to see if that guy's making another movie.

All 3 films in the Hanzo the Razor box set. Great stuff. Description below.

Hanzo the Razor
Are you a fan of samurai films, but wish they were somehow...dirtier? Welcome to the deranged world of Hanzo the Razor, a weird blend of swordplay and sexploitation. The first Hanzo movie, Sword of Justice, came out a year after Shaft and Dirty Harry and fuses the influence of both: stout and surly Hanzo (Shintaro Katsu), a rebellious yet obsessively moral samurai, is also enormously well-endowed and provides almost unbearable pleasure to the women he "interrogates"--that is to say, rapes in the name of the law. Hanzo also tortures and blackmails without qualm as he slices through crime, uncovering corruption at higher levels in each progressive film. In Sword of Justice he overturns his own craven superiors; in The Snare, he breaks into a temple used by local magistrates for the sadistic torture of young girls; in Who's Got the Gold, the shogunate treasury is being looted by its own officials--had there been a fourth film, Hanzo would probably have confronted the shogun himself. But while the movies wallow in Hanzo's ruthless treatment of criminals and women, it also ogles the torture Hanzo inflicts upon himself! Sword of Justice will knock you sideways as you struggle to balance Hanzo's puritanical code with his masochism and brutality (as well as the funky '70s soundtrack). The Snare and Who's Got the Gold?, disappointingly repeat many of the same routines (in particular, the "net torture" of female suspects). But while the fight choreography in the first two films is often crude, Who's Got the Gold (directed by Yoshio Inoue) has more visual finesse and social commentary--not many movies combine temple orgies and geysers of blood with inflation, unemployment, and high interest rates. (There's a particularly eerie scene in which a samurai in debt is hounded by a pack of blind men.) Hanzo the Razor undoubtedly influenced the moral outrage/leering voyeurism mix of Death Wish and its ilk, but Shintaro Katsu's gleeful ferocity (in contrast with Charles Bronson's dour, repressed deadpan) makes this trilogy stranger and sleazier. Katsu was also the star of the hugely popular Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman series.

Any fan of gangster films needs this 5 part series. The Yakuza Papers is like a Japanese counterpart to The Godfather. Director Kinji Fukasaku(Battle Royale, Graveyard Of Honor, Street Mobster) is the King Of Yakuza Movies. Star Bunta Sugawara gives an amazing performance in these films.

What would you say is the best thing about that set. The violence?

Pretty much everything(story, acting, pacing, realism, etc.).

Realism? Sounds like something I like. I'll be adding it to my movie library.

How about if it was forced Diarrhea Bukkake where Ned Beatty was unleashing a massive amount of butt gravy into a beer bong and on the other end was some 18 year old North Korean refugee girl who was forced to injest it while Tony Danza choked and slapped her around screaming, "Who's the boss?!? I said, who's the boss, you worthless cunt?!?" and then the girl gags and dies because she is allergic to the slivers of peanuts that Ned Beatty's diarrhea is loaded with?

I'm not a great fan of 'Soap' or the drivel that is pimped out as 'star vehicles'.'
I would far prefer to watch 'actors' utilising their acting skills. For these reasons alone, I have found it difficult to watch the latest Kate Winslet offerings (one directed by her husband).
However, if she outdoes the recent 'acting' performances of Marisa Tomai, Meryl Streep or Melissa Leo, then good luck to her with her gongs. Otherwise, I hope she accepts them, gives a silly speech and, ultimately, chokes on them!

Taken - Two Thumbs-Up!!! Didn't waste time with a lot of talking. Liam character only talked when it needed to. I know its unbelievable because the man never tired from all the running and fighting. Only slightly hurt himself jumping from a bridge to the boat, but STILL Kicked_Ass on the boat.

4 out of 5 stars. Worth watching! If anyone else has seen it; are 17 year old girls THAT GOOFY?!?!

10 to Midnight is so great. The interrogation scene where Bronson is waving that masturbatory device is the best. "You know what this is for, Warren? It's for JERKING OFF!"

Bronson also hates it when he thinks he's getting pie and gets quiche instead.

Tepres, you need to see Murphy's Law and Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects. I assume you've seen all 5 Death Wish movies.

Do you know the guy who played the killer, Warren Stacy, is an actor named Gene Davis? Gene Davis is the brother of Brad Davis, who played Billy Hayes in Midnight Express. Fast-forward to 2009. Gene Davis now looks like an old lady with a bad facelift and Brad Davis died after somebody gave him the AIDS.
