No. The Russians are the Russians. The Caucasus region understands the ex-USSR republics of the South Caucasus region - Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan as also the whole area of the North Caucasus with many different ethnic peoples of the mountainmen. All these peoples are considered in Russia as the Caucasians, but not the Russians. As also they have a different look if you compare them to the Russians.

Do people even know what Caucasian means? Caucasian is rubbish. It's junk science created by a German in the 1800's who used craniology which is measuring skulls. It's pretty much been shown since then to be crap. He named it after the Georgians who he thought were the archetype of the Caucasian peoples. I could go into mitochondrial dna or haplogroups but lets make it simple. Race as we know it is essentially a construct. Genetics proves that most of these so called races are effectively variants of the same basic prototypes. We as humans tend to try to group things that look similar into a group together. In general most of the groups you mention have the same mitochondrial dna and most have the same haplogroups meaning that millions of years back they had the same progenitors. Varaitions in looks tend to be due to Darwins survival of the fittest where certain genes proved to be beneficial in certain areas so that people with those genetic variations and mutations thrived whilst others without them didn't. The so called Caucasian grouping covers a huge area with a hugely diverse group of people who look very different - India through the Caucasas region and into Europe proper. All it really means is that they tend to have the same cranial shape. If you compare say skin colour you see obvious differences based on temperature and sun exposure. A Caucasiuan person from Northern Europe looks different to a Caucasian person from Southern India. The Slavic people had slightly (and I do mean slightly different head shapes when measured so were grouped differently but in terms of skin pigment etc location had an effect. Slavs from nearer the med are darker than Slavs from the north etc.

If you want to say that they appear to be from a different region then by all means say that but if I put 100 Russians and 100 Georgians in a room together and got most people to try to put 100 people into what they thought was Russian and 100 into what they thought was Georgian and I'm fairly certain people would struggle because in general they have more characteristics in common than they have differences even though 100 would be Slavic and 100 Caucasian under the very broad general term based on a limited measurement sample by a dodgy 19th century scientist. Some would be obviously one group or the other based on them having a typical look that you expect from that group whilst others would have minimal distinctions.

Culturally different people from different areas can be quite different even people from quite close areas. You only have to look at Britain to see rapid shifts in culture, accent etc over very short distances but genetically they are very similar. Certainly if you knew the accents, mannerisms, slang etc you could differentiate those 200 people easier but in general they actually dont look hugely different.

Heck genetically we are 97% the same as chimps. If we used the same dodgy scientific methods and generalisations as Blumenbach did when he created the Caucasian racial archetype you might as well say we are chimps. It wouldn't make us chimps.

Don't you see any difference among them ? Or that's also the "German junk science" ?

Are you serious? Show 2 random pictures and try to use that to demonstrate that all people from the same region have the same characteristics. Sigh ... you have the internet why dont you stop posting random crap and instead go and use it to learn something.

    http://www.google.com.au/imgres?imgu...ed=0CE4Q9QEwBQ

Russia and Georgia are actually near the epicentre of the most diverse haplogroup numbers in the world. Whilst Russia has a larger % of r1a genetic markers than say Georgia both share a largish %. That means that many people would in fact share the same genetic traits common with that haplogroup.

In fact based on Genetic markers it would be hard to pin down what a typical Georgian looks like given that they have such a diverse split of haplogroups. Some would have the traditional Russian r1a genetics whilst others would have genetic markers closer to the middle eastern peoples whilst others have the r1b common in western european peoples.

All that really means is that people with the same haplogroup on that map shared the same male ancestor.

    Understanding Haplogroups

    1. What is a haplogroup?

One way to think about haplogroups is as major branches on the family tree of Homo Sapiens. These haplogroup branches characterize the early migrations of population groups. As a result, haplogroups are usually associated with a geographic region. If haplogroups are the branches of the tree then the haplotypes represent the leaves of the tree. All of the haplotypes that belong to a particular haplogroup are leaves on the same branch. Both mtDNA and Y-DNA tests provide haplogroup information, but remember that the haplogroups nomenclature are different for each.
    2. Y-DNA haplogroups

A Y-DNA haplogroup is defined as all of the male descendants of the single person who first showed a particular SNP mutation. A SNP mutation identifies a group who share a common ancestor far back in time, since SNPs rarely mutate. Each member of a particular haplogroup has the same SNP mutation. For a single page graphic representation of the Y chromosome haplogroup tree, please see the haplotree.
    3. mtDNA haplogroups

An mtDNA haplogroup is defined as all of the female descendants of the single person who first showed a particular polymorphism, or SNP mutation. Like Y-DNA SNP mutations, an mtDNA SNP mutation identifies a group who share a common ancestor far back in time.
    4. How is my haplogroup determined?

Your haplogroup is automatically tested and confirmed for mtDNA tests. For Y-DNA tests, your haplogroup is predicted based on a large database that Family Tree DNA has for this purpose. The Y-DNA haplogroup database consists of the test results of participants in studies conducted and tested by Dr. Hammer at the University of Arizona.
Due to our high level of confidence in our prediction algorithm, most of the times a person will not be offered to order a confirmation test of their Haplogroup. However, on some occasions where we don’t feel that a Haplogroup can be determined unambiguously without a test, the SNP test will be offered. For several haplogroups we can now offer Deep Clade tests, which can provide further information. To learn more, click here.
    5. How are the haplogroups named?

The mtDNA and Y-DNA haplogroups are both named according to capitalized letters of the alphabet. Examples of mtDNA haplogroups include H, L2 and A. The mtDNA haplogroups are named as researchers differentiate different population groups.
Each of these major haplogroups, or clades, can have subgroups, or subclades. Subgroups have a numeric name which follows the haplogroup name. For example, haplogroup E has two subgroups called E1 and E2. There is also a subgroup E* which belongs to haplogroup E but not either of the defined subgroups. Subclades can also have subgroups, which are noted with lower-case characters, such as E1a or E1b.
The Y Chromosome Consortium (YCC) developed a naming system for the Y-DNA haplogroups designed to easily accommodate expansion as new groups are discovered. The YCC has defined 20 major haplogroups, called A through T, which represent the major divisions of human diversity based on SNPs on the Y-chromosome.
All Family Tree DNA explanations and terminology, including our haplogroup database, use the standard system developed by the YCC and defined in the YCC paper. The Y Chromosome Consortium scientific paper, which describes the Haplogroup naming system, can be found at the link below:

Over time, as more SNPs are discovered, the haplogroup tree will grow and the haplogroup names, or nomenclature, will change accordingly. While the haplogroup names may change, the actual SNPs do not. When a new haplogroup tree is published, it takes time for all organizations to update their systems. As a result, you will find that some sites display haplogroup names based on the older nomenclature, and other sites display haplogroup names based on the newer nomenclature. You may view the older and newer Y-Chromosome Phylogenetic Trees at the links below:
