This thread has been a blast to watch go off-track, but Iran is actually the best place in the Arab world to be trans, from what I've heard.

Although, I think the rationale is that it's because it's preferable for gay men to transition than to be gay men. It seems like it works out better for girls who would have sought transition anyway than it does for gay men.

Totally spot on Ms Stepford. Gay men are persecuted in the Iranian Islamic Republic. (They are not actually Arabs) So many choose to go the transsexual route out of need to survive.
