Thread: Why Italy?

Re: Why Italy?
i have never been to europe because i see no value in it. i'd never pay to go there. we spend our money on vacations where we are sitting on a beach drinking heavily which have largely occurred in most major countries of the western hemisphere (brazil the glaring exception).
i have been to china and japan for meetings. we were to go to greece last summer for the ISN conference but that fell through. eventually, we will go all over europe as work dictates...so i will see europe thankfully for free.
i understand why many people like europe but neither my wife nor i really care about old buildings, history, old world charm, etc. we are the type of people that went to the great wall and said..."oh, a wall." or the grand canyon and said "oh, a hole." we'd go see the sights in europe and not be impressed. every time we take a vacation, we talk ourselves out of europe because from all the stories and pictures of friends there, we know we'd be bored quickly. we just value different things out of a vacation.

Sounds great for me! I'm moving to Italy in 2 months, looks like I'll have a nice selection.

Wow - yeah ok - if the Great Wall, The Grand Canyon or the Colliseum aren't going to impress you. If the beauty of walking along a Mediterranean town, of the Italian or French wine regions, of the majestic European cities with 1000 year old architecture, the beauty of the British countryside or sitting in an 800 yr old pub don't interest you - then please, please don't come to Europe.
I respect the fact that everyone has different ideas for downtime and vacation. I can't sit on a beach for more than an hour - and I'll do my drinking in different places.

Re: Why Italy?
yeah, we really aren't sight seeing type people. we are definitely beach/spa people and don't really get into much else besides jet skiing, parasailing, etc...stuff you do on a beach.
seriously...when we went to the wall, it was part of the tour and we were bored. when we went to the grand canyon, we drove from vegas, literally got out the car, looked at it for 10 min, had lunch and drove back. I kid you not...we were there for ~10 min.
My PI has no plans to go to european meetings in 2013, so unless my wife's PI changes his mind, europe might wait until 2014 again. It will happen...there are too many conferences there for us not to go to most of the major cities. when we are both independent, i'm sure we will go to every meeting possible anywhere and everywhere but for now, we still have to yield to our mentors.

Re: Why Italy?
that reply was NOT serious...its said tongue in cheek. i love this city and will never live anywhere else because it has everything i need and want. i can't say it is the greatest place ever because i've not lived in enough varied places to honestly say but i don't even want to be bothered to try.

Re: Why Italy?
I think there are many reasons that explains why Italy first, second spain third france are favourite countries between brazilian t-girls
1-dont need Visa
2-prostitution is not unlegal
3-its an easier language italian, spanish, french (Latin languages)to learn for the girls than english, deutch(most part of tgirls doesnt attended school)
4-Human traffic is everywhere i dont think thats a reason.
I could spent all day here telling many other reasons...

have travelled in Europe both in the Air Force and to vacation. It really is a good idea for American's to see other parts of the world there is a lot out there. But more importantly it reminded me why such a big chunk of the world wants to be here and reminds me to appreciate I was fortunate to be born in the best country in the world.
