Daniel Lanois is a great talent - wonderful producer too.
Robbie Robertson of The Band is my songwriting hero - fantastic ability to bring history alive in song. This song for me is his finest moment, the sad story of the French Canadians displaced and expelled by the British at the end of the Seven Years War. And, of course, Robbie hails from Toronto.
Two lines in the last verse tear me up every time:
"Set my compass north, I got winter in my blood"
But pleasures are like poppies spread
You seize the flow'r, the bloom is shed

Last piece of "Canadiana" for tonight lol.
Kate and Anna McGarrigle. This song has an almost religious sensibility to it, and I find it incredibly moving, especially those fragile harmonies. We'll miss you, Kate.

Percy faith ! PERCY FAITH!!!! Good grief... whatever next.
Though maybe this is better.... the man who inspired the Nigerian people to resist military dictatorship (and more recentky was the subject a great london stage musical)

Oh and Acadian Driftwood is a magnificent song - possibily by favourite by The Band There is also a very good rendition around by US girl trio The Roches (really!)
