This why people from OZ should not join in on issues concerning American politics. You don't do your homework. The left in USA are not crazy hippies and corrupt unionist. You compare our right wing to yours when they are actually very different. Then you make comments based on only what you hear and read on American right wing sites. Is there something wrong with our political system? You bet your ass there is. It has become too extreme to either side. The right has lost the meaning of compromise. Their main goal is not jobs for people to save their homes. Their only goal is to defeat Obama. They said so openly. But their actions will backfire on them. It already has in many ways. If you ever saw the protesters fighting to keep their jobs and bargining rights, and winning their fight, you would know better, and you would know why. But like all typical right winger, you refuse to do your homework and see the truth from unbiased media.
