I watched "American Psycho" last night on the IFC channel. Lots of gore and rough sex with nudity but ultimately thought it was not time well spent. If anyone is hot for Christian Bale, it's worth a look, I guess.

I dont know the film but I like Christian Bale, he usually makes interesting films -viz. The Machinist, The New World, Empire of the Sun...
The House Bunny!
With cutie Anna Faris who sets a great example for me! ;)
Last night tried to watch Southland Tales. Couldn't get into it. Directed by the same guy that did Donnie Darko.... But, sadly, wasn't as interesting.

2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams
The Negotiator
Human Centipede 2. Fucking awful...
A wonderful film called Margin Call - a powerful drama with brilliant ensemble playing about the economic crisis. Built around a fictionalised version of (I think) Lehman brothers. A powerful picture of greed and amorality and big business driving onwards despite the cost to tens of thousands of ordinary people.

Four lions - for the second time.
Brilliantly funny.

I just saw Date Night. I love Tina Fey but I was a bit disappointed.
OK. I was really disappointed. It was no Mean Girls, which just happens to be my favorite movie, so yeah. Meh.

Well the humour that amuses us is probably one of the most subjective qualities. I know people who think the three stooges are hugely funny. I think them banal.
As for this film - I found it funny because I have met many of the radicals who are satirised in this film and found some of them - in ways - as ludicrous as they are portrayed here. Did you see the film or just the trailer, Stavros?
I saw the whole of the film, and got rid of it as soon as I could. I am not opposed to satire, although I am struggling to think of a satirical film about war that I actually like; I have also met Islamic militants, none of whom were worth a chuckle or a laugh, one of them, currently at home in Libya -if he is still alive- was disturbing and a malign influence on others. I understand the role of satire, I just think this particular film fell flat from start to finish. In fact I don't think there has been a compelling film on this subject, but I might be wrong; there was a film about Palestinians a few years ago but I can't remember the name of it.
Troll Hunter and Cowboys vs Aliens ..
Troll hunter was great fun .. cowboys was shite
just saw Contraband last night with marky mark and kate beckinsale.
wifey knew we were seeing it because kate beckinsale was in it...but she still liked it.
overall, its just a heist movie with a series of almost impossible situations (not as bad as the oceans series or the italian job). the movie is 100% predictable and everyone that "turns" is expected and you see the end coming about 20min in...but that doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable.
The Iron Lady, directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
David Lloyd-George, Clement Attlee and Margaret Thatcher were the three most influential Prime Ministers of the 20th century, but if you are not familiar with the history of 1970-1990 this film will not tell you why Thatcher was as huge as she was. Like all biographical films, the dilemma is what to put in and what to leave out, the film fails because the film is so dominated by MT that its hard to understand the politics of the time, or the people involved -Geoffrey Howe is there, Nigel Lawson is not, the humiliation of Howe in Cabinet is in fact the weakest scene in the film; few people today remember John Nott who took over from Lord Carrington when Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands, Heseltine has a few moments, but nobody else. MT at one point quotes her father on the importance of ideas over feelings, but there is no explanation for MT's conversion to monetarism or free market economics under the influence of the 'Mad Monk' Keith Joseph (who is there in person but doesn't have a speaking role). And, ultimately, the film is all about feelings anyway, in fact the film should have been called The Sad Lady. As a film about politics it is a complete failure; as a film about the years I lived through and in which I was politically active, it is a shabby exercise in hero worship unable, and unwilling to offer any evaluation of such a difficult period in this country's history.
But, and it is a colossal BUT, Meryl Streep is mesmerising, the make-up is perfect, the gestures she makes with her eyes, even her shoulders are uncanny- Streep is majestic, powerful, an artist of our times who, in her prime, was of course more alluring than the real MT. Its worth seeing just to be overwhelmed by this gifted woman, to marvel at the range of expression that she can produce.
I agree with you 100 per cent regarding The iron Lady. In both parts of your judgement. Streep astonishing. The film otherwise a failure.
the movie 13 it is about a Russian roulette game to the extreme, great movie with good intensity
Dolores Claiborne. It's very good. It isn't horror. More, well, it's very dramatic.

The Guard - a quirky comedy from Ireland.
watched sucker punch last night on cinemax. it was a decent movie. 3.5/5 stars
i saw contraband on friday night last week...not enough beckinsale but not a bad heist movie. 2.5/5 stars
PINA -Wim Wenders.
Unfortunately I was unable to see the 3D version of this in a cinema, so I bought the 2D DVD.
Pina Bausch, along with Kenneth Macmillan, Maurice Bejart, Merce Cunningham, Alwin Nikolais, Jerome Robbins and Georges Balanchine, was one of the great innovators of 20th century dance, and without doubt the most extreme. The physical demands she made of her dancers were beyond anything that other choreogaphers asked for but she made her ballets with her dancers, taking their ideas and feeling and transforming them into magical spectacles of spite, insanity, sarcasm, love and joy, above all, the joy of dance. Her rare departure into the standard reportoire produced, out of the 180-odd versions known to exist, the best version of Le Sacre du Printemps, which opens this film.
Wenders has returned to the Wuppertal of Alice in der Stadt, and produced one of the most beautiful, moving, funny, loving films I have ever seen. This is a work of genius, and to his credit, this otherwise pompous asshole has, for once, allowed someone else to take over his film and make their point(s).
Quite simply, one of the best documentaries ever made.
Hostel III was extremely mediocre.

The Third Man and Chungking Express.......neither was particularly enjoyable but according to assorted critics (no doubt Stavro falls into this category) they are works of genius that require multiple viewings to appreciate. Both films do create intense moods but otherwise I don't understand what the fuss is all about.
I saw Underworld: Awaking. Plenty upon plenty of actions, stunts, fighting choregraphy, but the plot was quite simple and not at all what i had expected: Hybrid child plot. i thought it 'd be more of a twist and typical tie in with Underworld.
Also saw Haywire. i thought this was boring!! . it had short fighting segments, but it
was sloooow in too many periods. i thought it be a quick flow, episonage-movie like Angelina Jolie's "SALT".
One for the Money
Paranormal Activity 3
Real Steel
Atlas Shrugged Part 1
Ho-ho, or maybe ho-hum...if I ever write my article on Music in the Movies, The Third Man will be up there with Elvira Madigan and The Piano as examples of barbarism, torture, unintelligence and however many other nasty words I can find to complain about the abuse of music in films. I feel a migraine coming on just thinking of that damn zither.
Chungking Express is ok, its not a great movie but not a bad one either -in fact, its a Wong Kar-Wai movie which means it begins strongly and evaporates half-way through so that by the time you are near the end you can't remember why you are watching it.
I just watched The Mechanic, so you see, I am not such a snob. But after PINA, I have to admit, it was an anti-climax. I like Jason Statham, he just can't dance.
The guard - quite funny movie set in ireland about drug dealers and the police
We agree! Music killed The Third Man......given the brilliant cinematography and great story music was unnecessary. Agree also with the assessment of Chungking Express......it seemed intriguing at the start and then just degenerated into absurdity.
BTW, watched Treasure of the Sierra Madre recently and found that to be outstanding.....little in the way of overwrought music or visual distractions to take away from the story.
I agree on this, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre was made at a time when studios expected a film to be made in three months on a tight budget, which is why so many of the 30s and 40s classics zip along with crisply written scripts and where the production and direction had to be focuse on storytelling -although there have been classics since, giving teams buckets of money leads to the kind of self-indulgence one associates with Spielberg -Jaws, after all, is still his best film, made in difficult circumstances on a limited budget.
"The Artist"--I don't understand all the raves. The one prior that I saw was "Incredably Close And Extremely Loud"--a fine movie, though one must understand the boy seems to have Arsberger Syndrone.
Attempted to watch Red Tails tonight. Could only stomach the first 20 minutes before I left the theatre in disgust with the shit dialogue, predictable plot, and awful acting. Truly rubbish masquerading as historical drama and what's worse attempting to play the race card to lure viewers in. Stay away!
Saw the new Underworld last night utter failure, at least it ended with a bang-not the movie :p
Underworld Awakening
I want to look like her soo bad! ;)
kate beckinsale is most gorgeous woman in the world. i can think of no woman hotter. i know its all a matter of opinion and perspective but she is my #1...g or t.
that said....back on topic.
i caught "The Woman In Black" last night. It opens on Friday. I recommend you see it if you like thrillers such as Dead Silence. Harry Potter does a good job trying not to act like Harry Potter. Its not oscar worthy but it will make you jump at all the right moments.
Shooters (from 2002), a bit of a mess, but entertaining.
