I'm sure this has been explained multiple times by girls who like to top (and yes, in my experience there are many--and not just because they get paid to do it) and by guys who enjoy being fucked by t-girls (but not men).

My last job was quite a conservative environment. I was one who didn't discuss or reveal my sexuality at all there, though I know the few men who were out had to put up with incredibly juvenile attitudes at best. When you're in a position where you have to repress yourself and conform or not eat, most people are going to go along to get along.

This leaves aside those who have to deal with resistance from their family. I find it hard to judge people who aren't willing to pay the price of outing themselves when they face being disavowed by the people they love.
