They now have strict protocols medically. Now these days you have to go trough strict physiological evaluation and strict physical examination.

You cannot get srs if...

You have not successfully feminized by hormones

Have not been approved by a psychologist

This has many to do with the mind set of a person, determination, ect.

They ask many questions to identify if one is qualified for a sex change.

Since 2000 because of the strict procedure to avoid misdiagnosis and suicide rates, only 2 percent of transexuals only qualify... Since then suicide rate decreased, and surgery now is very safe and less complications occur.

Then you should know in general, GLBT have higher rates of suicide, This does not mean transexual have a higher rate. You can't conduct a study where about 13 percent of the population is GLB, and a lesser population of T.

for the record, since this thread is so damn tangential...i'm 33 and i have 1 basic science (neuroscience), 1 medical (specializing in neurology) and 1 psych degree...and that's the order I earned them in due to the regs of my MD/PhD program. The least impressive is actually the Psychology PhD because most purely psychological research lacks key clinical components and are too, as you sorta pointed out, only relevant to the socioeconomic and cultural biases of the population. The easiest to get was actually the MD because simply but, it is just alot of studying and memorization. There is more bullshit on the PhD side of translational research.

So...while I am not inclined to cut/paste the abstracts or pubmed links here, if you really think that i'm citing incorrect stats, well, you just are reading the wrong papers or have no idea how behavioral stats are compiled. regarding the number of "stealth" transgendered individuals out there...i agree that many on this board have no idea...but i would contest that your choice of words is not appropriate. Stealth implies going unnoticed for the purpose of hiding. I would argue that post-op people are not hiding...they are just not advertising because their birth or present anatomy is irrelevant to the person they are.

for my psych thesis, finding post-op women to interview was easy...they were very proud. finding pre-op women was actually more difficult because of the criteria my mentor and i set for inclusion in particular groups, but also because these women seemed to be more in hiding than post-operative women.

Uh no stealth means being in society with caution, it's not hiding. No one is hiding. That's impossible since many who do get the surgery want to go out and feel free with their newfound bodies.

Your thesis goes against experience, I find that pre op women are more likely involved as post op when tend to et away from the scene, How many sex change porn star do you know compared to pre op? Not to mention do you know the stats of post ops? I don't but I guarantee you it's significantly less.

Do you mean "work" as in plastic surgery and hormone treatment , or "work" like "hours in the industry". It doesn't really matter because either claim is pretty messed up. Admittedly, some of these chicks are just lucky or make it through the industry faster than others; but I'm sure if you were to approach Domino with either claim, you'd be put on blast. You can't be all that familiar with her personal life, and picking apart her image is petty because it's obviously working for her.
