Star arrives in Beverly Hills courtroom to begin 90-day jail sentence that will likely be much shorter

Lindsay Lohan has arrived in a Beverly Hills courtroom to turn herself in for jail.
The "Mean Girls" star was sentenced to serve 90 days in jail earlier this month after a judge determined she violated her probation.
She is likely to serve far less time due to jail overcrowding.
Lohan arrived about 10 minutes late and was accompanied by attorney Shawn Chapman Holley and her mother.
The 24-year-old has been free on bail since missing a court hearing in May for a 2007 drug and alcohol case.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) -- Lindsay Lohan is due back in court Tuesday to surrender for a 90-day jail sentence that is likely to be whittled down by overcrowding and other credits.
Her stay will be longer than the 84 minutes she spent at a suburban Los Angeles jail in 2006 and marks the beginning of a new phase of punishment for drug and alcohol cases filed that year.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel sentenced the "Mean Girls" star to jail, three months in rehab and increased scrutiny by probation officials on July 6 after determining the actress violated her probation by missing seven alcohol education classes since December.
Lohan, 24, burst into tears after hearing the sentence, which came after she tearfully apologized to the judge for not strictly following the terms of her probation.
Dozens of cameras and reporters converged on the courthouse Tuesday morning to chronicle Lohan's arrival and her return to custody.
On Friday celebrity attorney Robert Shapiro signed on to the case after Lohan moved into a sober living facility that he founded. By Monday night, the Los Angeles Times and celebrity website TMZ.com, citing anonymous sources, reported that Shapiro had resigned from the case.
Shapiro met with Revel in a closed meeting late Monday afternoon. The prosecutor handling the case, Danette Meyers, was not present and court officials said there had been no change in requirements for Lohan's surrender.
In an e-mail to The Associated Press sent Monday evening after the meeting, Shapiro said his only comments would be made in open court.
Lohan, a prolific user of the microblogging site Twitter, posted a message roughly 12 hours before her court appearance referencing her looming incarceration.
"The only 'bookings' that I'm familiar with are Disney Films, never thought that I'd be 'booking' into jail eeeks," Lohan posted.
The jail and rehab stints have left some of the actress' projects in limbo, including her planned portrayal of porn star Linda Lovelace in a biopic.
Once considered an up-and-coming star, Lohan has in recent years been better-known as a tabloid staple and for the criminal case she has struggled to put behind her.
Her probation had to be extended for a year to give Lohan more time to complete her alcohol education courses and Revel ordered weekly attendance in December.
But the actress didn't complete the sessions as ordered and missed a court date in May, setting a stage for her return to jail. She is expected to serve her time -- probably a quarter of her sentence or less -- in isolation at a women's jail in the industrial suburb of Lynwood.
The facility has hosted several female celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Michelle Rodriguez, Khloe Kardashian and very briefly, Lohan.
Sheriff's officials have said Lohan would be placed in an isolation cell at the jail, where she will spend most of her time and take her meals.
She will be forced to wear a jail-issued jumpsuit and be given a set of simple toiletries that all inmates receive: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, comb, deodorant, shampoo and shaving implements. Hilton received one for her own secluded 23-day stay in 2007 for reckless driving charges.

Lindsay Lohan's prison days are numbered, which means LiLo watchers are already predicting her first post-pokey moves.
Rehab will definitely be one of her first stops once she's released, as People confirms Lohan has been ordered to report to an L.A. rehab centre within 24 hours of her release. And as her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, told the mag, "There's a push now for her to go directly to rehab from jail."
But she might as well make that trip to rehab as fabulous and loaded with image-rebranding stunts as possible.
Whenever Lohan does exit her cozy current digs in Lynwood, Calif., cameras will be watching. And where there are cameras, there should be a "glam squad."
Popeater reports that Lohan has already picked out what she'll be wearing when she exits prison: It will be something from her leggings line (because we haven't been reminded enough that she's the face of a burgeoning Lycra empire). And the outlet speculates that Lohan will be choreographing her exit — a la Paris Hilton's penitent walk of shame a few years back — for maximum public sympathy.
Should she want to bring in anyone to fuss over her hair and makeup (we're guessing prison-issue toiletries don't stack up to whatever fancy swag she usually applies to her mug), Popeater reports there will be a small facility available near the processing area.
"There is a small, dirty public bathroom in the reception area that she will be allowed to use briefly before she leaves," a source told the outlet. "She will not be allowed to plug in a hair dryer and get a blow-out and she can forget about using a flattening iron. There will be no full-length mirror and only if the corrections officers decide to be nice will they close the area to the public."

The problem with this country is that drug abuse is seen as a sign of moral weakness or outright inmorality instead of as a public health problem. LiLo, if she is like many drug abusers, started using drugs because she was self medicating to ward off her demons, and continues to use them either for the same reason or because she is now addicted (a physiological condition). In either case, what she and others like her need is medical help, not "tough" prison sentences.

Whether or not you agree with the criminalization of addiction or not isn't the issue here. She's completed rehab, has the financial means for intensive therapy instead of self-medicating, and voluntarily returned to her cadre of enablers and party life. There is no reason that she couldn't stay clean for her next court date given her resources. She made a choice to smoke her career and future. By this point, I can't imagine any production insurance company that would insure a project that she's associated with. I'll agree that addiction needs to be treated and is medical condition. I'll agree that she needs serious intervention. But there's this blatent disregard for authority she seems to demonstrate that she's above the law and entitled to special treatment. After being given so many chances and breaks that the oridinary person would never receive and the means to deal with her demons, it's a slap in the face to the system and those less fortunate then her who will probably spend a good deal of time in prison for doing much less then she has already.

The highest priced lawyer couldn't convince an investigator that it's a misunderstanding and I let the person borrow the item based on the fact that I personally know the customer and where they live not to mention they had the balls to bring it back to my place for service or warranty. I'd really love to see a detectives face when the lawyer says to him that that without audio on the video, it's my word against the thieves, therefore they have no case. Especially in most states where it's illegal to record audio. If I filed a report and pressed charges, would this thief have the option if tipped off by someone in the police department that a search warrant has been approved by a judge and about to be executed to just walk into the local substation and surrendering the stolen item with the desk officer and simply say they are returning it? Last time I recall, being on parole and under court supervision doesn't even require a search warrant. Ya think there might be something in the thief's house or property that they're taking this action to avoid being searched? Do you think the thief's atty suggested that they further incriminate themselves by returning it?

What about all those Wall Street crooks? I mean, there is one set of laws for the rich, privileged and powerful and another set of laws for the rest of us. Well, she's getting arraigned tomorrow for grand theft. She's cordially invited to meet with the judge, get her photo and booking done and post bail probably in time for the party to follow. Your post certainly makes sense...but what's happening with her doesn't. Knowing some addicts, part of me feels empithy for her, but most addits I know wind up dead or jonesin' in jail. There is 2 law books...one for us, and one for her and Charlie Sheen and the rest of Hollywood's perfect class. But it shouldn't surprise you, fame and fortune got a double murder off, so she's got plenty of more chances. And if you're a "well respect" movie director who's first name is Roman..you just flee to Europe and live the life of luxury for decades.
