Metallica Sucks?
You just figuring that out now? Ever since they hooked up with producer Bob Rock on the Black album, they have been terrible.
They are just a bunch of sell outs. I remember going to concerts in the past where they had sections set up for people to record their concerts to make and share bootlegs of the shows.
Jason Newsted said it best when he left the group: "When you leave Metallica, your not leaving a band, your leaving a corporation."

Back in the day I went to London for a holiday and met this Scottish girl named Dot who worked at a metal record shop called "Shades"(dunno if its still in existence)
Anyways Metallica was in town to play Donnington and they did an in store record signing. After that Dot myself and Metallica went to a local pub and killed quite a few pints. All I can remember was they were pretty cool guys, but the coolest most down to earth of the lot was Cliff Burton...what a great guy! Well we all know what happened to poor Cliff, and frankly although Jason did an admirable job filling in,it wasnt the same, for me at least.
I think its pretty universally agreed upon amongst the Metallica fans that the "Black Album" was the beginning of the end.I can count on one hand how many songs since then that I've liked.
I d/l a song off the new album and it was more of the same crap that they've puttig out lately.
Seen them live several times, last time was in OC and this dude on the lawn held up a sign the whole show that said "Dont play any new shit"...couldnt have said it better me self

I second that however I think someone in the record company should tell them that since Cliff Burton is gone, they should give it up and should have given it up a long time ago

I saw Iron Maiden last night at MSG. They were awesome- always give it their best. Once Newstead lest Metallica, it was the last nail in the coffin- he was the last one that was a good guy. They really suck now, and why is it that they need 6 years to put out an album when Maiden, Priest, Megadeth, Slayer, etc churn one out every couple of years- and each one is pretty damn good.

Metallica defenitly blew their "load" on Justice...luckily for them they can still rock out the old stuff. Im going to see Maiden on wed. theres a band that can still bring it...fyi the new testament album is great
Seriously though you can't expect a band to keep putting out the same sound for 20 years, I like all there stuff.

Iron Maiden's Steve Harris: best.....bass.....player......ever!
This is going to sound crass and classless, but when James Hetfield got himself clean, Metallica's music lost it's edge and anger. Don't get me wrong, he did the best thing for himself in getting off drugs and booze, but the music just ain't the same.

Point taken.
I said that cause Metallica used to(ahem, twenty some years ago) preach about how they wouldn't let their artistic integrity be undermined by the callous and superficial machine known as MTV.
If they were to make a video it would be chock full of honor, integrity and other really positive adjectives. They broached that cardinal rule with the video "One", which did have some merit, artistically. (Even though Lars embarrassed himself by saying that Johnny was the main character of the book "Johnny Got His Gun" when Johnny was used generically.)
Then, the "Black" album came out and Metallica was making videos from concert footage. How is a video of a bands concert a poignant representation of a band bound by principal and artistic fortitude? Especially a band who claimed to be rising against the machine of canned musicians controlled by music moguls.
I guess Metallica still has a little piece of my heart convinced that they played music that made sense to them and not just cents. Gosh, I wanna believe that despite the debacle they've turned into.

Metallica? There's this point in the article where they mention 'distrust' and the RIAA... me, I'd rather go for 'disgust'. Granted, Mustaine's not the best playmate in the world, granted, he's got this nasty habit of firing people at will and so forth, but, to some, due to the way they chose to alienate themselves from the fans, well, Metallica's dead and buried.
Or is it? The band's become a moneycow for them at some point, but it's nearly the same people that rocked a lot of worlds with their hits some decades ago. They 'transcended', some die-hard fans will still be with them all the way, others will mourn the loss of their favourite band (and if Cryptopsy can have a nasty effect on a certain niche by going deathcore, I can imagine the consequences here)... whereas I'll just listen to what I like, laugh at their idiocy from my little corner of the Old Continent (that they'll be visiting soon, yayness) and debate on. :D

Shit, I don't buy any of this diatribe. Metallica's drummer already publicly admitted (several times) that his stance against Napster was a mistake, and he just had a knee-jerk emotional reaction to a change in technology he didn't fully understand at the time.
Metallica is pure unadulterated, in your face, grab you by the nutts rock & roll, and is far better than the whiney pussy-shit pop-rock music that has saturated the music industry for the past decade. They're here to stay.

@ Trans Mission: Not really willing to get the gist, are we? Long story short:
para 1 - others may suck in their own way, the 'Tallica boys beat'em with their attitudes and non-musical history.
para 2 - they're just in it for the money. If some band (you needn't know) got a strong reaction by changing style to your brilliant deathcore, I can imagine how the Metallica fans are doing.
@ rawrr: Need we really give names? :) I mean... one man's treasure, another man's trash, I don't see anything great about that list.

Metallica was 100% right about napster free music downloading has almost completely destroyed music. If an artist’s record sales aren’t good the record companies aren’t going to continue to support them. That is why the business is only about singles and flash in the pan artists now mainly made up of a revolving door of emo rock and rap that both suck horribly. If you download a bands songs for free you are not a fan period.
The Metallica sucks argument because they haven’t made the same album over and over and over like Slayer and AC-DC is ridiculous. Metallica have grown and changed and have had the balls to try new things they have completely changed the mainstream of rock. Bands like System of a Down, Disturbed, Slipknot, Godsmack and many others would not have gotten record deals or any air play if it wasn’t for Metallica.
Grow up or grow a brain one of the two. Idiots
i was into them up till and justice 4 all...loved old anthrax way better !!!!

Honestly, I think Cliff was the one who kept them all "in check." Once he was gone they lost the sense of real creativity completely. Justice was half written by the time he was dead, so it wasn't all that bad, but after that it was all downhill. Virtually of the best written songs were done partially by him (even if he was on bass), so that's proof right there.
Just to not soil my memory, I try to forget they existed from the Black Album on...

Cliff did keep it in check in my opinion.
mustaine is a total douche but a good musician which is what matters.
Steve harris shreds the bass.
Also what about Slayer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they win!
these are my opinions however comments welcome just don't attack pre black album metallica

Metallica does suck, and the whole napster thing....I remember when the metallica boys worked in a garage, put their songs on tape and gave 'em to people just so they'd buy their tshirts. And the music industry is very hard on new talent, especially with this american idol mentality going on. Music downloading is a good way for new talent to get noticed/discovered Plus the fact that record companies are thives ,since they take a big portion of the sales, and the performers and bands get mere crumbs.
Concert tours are where the REAL money is.
Anyhow, the car once brokw down and had to walk to a country western bar to and use their phone to call for some help....while I waited, the jukebox was playing Metallica.....that alone shows me that Metallica's dead and replaced with something awful.

wow a country western bar, someone write the obituary
Also incase some of you haven't heard some solid metallica songs I reccommend checking out disposable heroes for the master of puppets album actually the whole album is pretty amazing
why are people caught in fucking time warps when it comes to bands, I don't like this album or I only like the earlier shit, get over yourselves man, your obviously not a real fan anyway..

I admit it, i'm not a real fan. The last good album, front to back, was Justice. Since then, there have been some decent songs but no album that I can listen to non-stop. I feel the same way about U2 since Achtung but at least they aren't so arrogant that they go out of their way to piss off their fans. I also like the fact that Bono seems to be interested in actually making a positive impact in the world instead of going after illegal downloaders.

In mho I think S&M both the cd and dvd are amazing..other than that the newer stuff isn't anything I'd buy or even download!
The whole napster thing kinda left a bad taste in my mouth ,it was just like Pete Townsend comming out agianst bootleg albums back in the late 70's early 80's. Only hardcore fans where buying the bootlegs.
Oh well...once big BIZ enters the pic it all turns to crap anyways!

I still always preferred Megadeath
Now I have to get into this discussion. I respect Trannybanger for preferring Megadeth. They really need all cred. Megadeth is a great band, they have some awesome songs, but the best ones is about "your bitch who left you and now you're all alone and is about to kill yourself". :-)
I think everyone is a bit tough in your opinions about Metallica. Metallica has never left their "roots". They were about 20 years old (even younger) when they did Kill Em All. That was 1983. They were not big at that time. They had Cliff Burton and Dave Mustain. The next album was Ride the lightning and they really peaked here. A good album, the songs are still heavy on stage. With Master of puppets they took on the world, people started to listen to Killem all and Ride the lightning as well.
I think they developed their music, because nothing is similar to Kill Em All. Justice for All album was a hit, good lyrics and heavy guitars, but "The black album" took Metallica into people's heart all over the World. They did not left their "old fan's" or "sold them self out" or something. This was a master piece!!!! I don't think genuine Metallica fans hates the black album, sorry...you are not true fans then. They got a lot of new fans who started to listen to their old records and when they got to the concert they understood what they had missed during 1983-1991.
Then I can understand that "you old fan's from 1983" felt they stopped with heavy metal on Load and Reload. But if you were at the concerts you had understood they played a lot of the old great songs, even "To live is to die". These songs has never left Metallica, but you left Metallica for some new albums. Every artist has to change their boundaries to develop themself in their skills. They did that with Load/Reload. UNDERSTAND THAT!!!!! They NEVER left you, YOU LEFT METALLICA!!!! What is the substitute? There is NO SUBSITUTE!!!! You know it and we KNOW IT!!!
Don't say Megadeth because they have their own stile, you can't compare. St Anger was really an angry album. Not very much good songs there, perhaps three or four. That was a statement. Next album will be a realy good one, with root way back to Ride the lightning and black album.
