I'm a Celt, but from the other side of the Irish Sea, and I can assure you that I have never had a mullet. The very idea!

Remember our discussion about whisky without the "e", Trish?

Isn't mullet a fish? I've eaten red mullet. Delicious.
Whisky without the e is Scotch... with an e it can be very good too from the right distillery in ireland. Not that any Scot would agree with that.

Oh, I don't know, Prospero. Some Irish whiskey is very palatable. Bushmills and Black Bush, Tullamore Dew....

And Jamesons is a very good place to start.

Bourbon on the other hand - sweet as cough syrup, kills the fire. Rye is mostly ok.

Well Bob, I do agree that a good single malt is,i n the end, the best of all. For me that means the peatier the better. My personal favourite is a vintage Laphroig with Talisker a close runner-up. (I once spent a day at the Talisker sheepdog trials. i could have done with a hip flask of the stuff to get through the tedium of everything after the first two hours.) I can discourse at length on the tehnicalities of how to herd (is that the right word) sheep using two dogs. Oh yes..... zzzzzzzzzzzz

Apologies for the temporary hijacking, but if we're talking whisky it's surely in a good cause. Peaty malts..... we need to do a tour of Islay, Prospero. Not only Laphroaig, but Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Isla....

And stop off at Campbeltown on the way back to sample Springbank and Glen Scotia. Slainthe!

Oh, and as for the new avatar, all I can say is that Anne-Sophie Mutter has really let herself go!

Avatar. It's a still from a book and CD collection which i read about yesterday. It's one I KNOW you'll love. I'll send you the details in a PM.

Well i gotta try be a bit more imaginative about whisky. I once knew a guy who boasted he had a collection of some 600 or more whiskys at home. Didn't know him well enough to get a chance to sample any though.

    End of hijack.

Recently I've been enjoying a 12 year old bottle of Caol Isla. Just a couple of fingers every other evening or so. Trying to make it last.

Now for today's caption. Not for the squeamish.
