I like to put it this way. There are people who espouse views that are so disgusting and so evil that many people in their heads could at least justify violence against them. Not with moral certainty but as a possible justification. The reason people don't act is because there are thousands of people who have those characteristics (racism, sociopathy, etc). Someone will fill their place and nothing is accomplished. The other thing is that there is an element of subjectivity. Some people who are perfectly nice are held up as symbols of evil and are vulnerable to people using the same motivations to kill them. Nobody says that when people engage in political violence that only truly reprehensible people will be killed. Might not even be half the time.

Also, it is likely to lead to retaliation from the other side and provide an excuse for an authoritarian crackdown if they are in power. Plus it can turn the victim into a sanctified martyr, even when their actual record doesn't merit that.

It's particularly hard to see how violence could be rational approach for anyone left of centre when the right owns more guns and also controls the government. It's understandable that people are frustrated when the democratic process has become so distorted, but I can't see any alternative but to try and persuade a significant majority of the voters.

First CBS and it's parent company cancelled Stephen Colbert and his late night show,after he criticized the Convicted Felon and Fascist Dictator Donald Trump. And now ABC and it's parent company Disney pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live,due too the comments Jimmy Kimmel allegedly made about Charlie Kirk's death. And earlier today FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr said there is more too come,the CFAFD Donald Trump threatened too pull the licenses of media outlets who make negative comments about him. This is the type of shit we see in Authoritarian Countries like China,Hungary,North Korea and Russia and now here in the United States Of America. And this is another example of censorship and government overreach from the Trump Regime. ABC,CBS,Disney and Paramount should all be a shame of themselves for appeasing and caving in too the pressure and demands of an authoritarian dictator and his corrupt regime,who is going too want more asskissing from ABC,CBS,Disney and Paramount. And it also shows how thinskinned and insecure he is,and can't take a joke .And lets remember the MAGA Party and their leader claims to be the party of free speech,but in reality they are only ones are allow to use free speech,and at the same time censoring everyone else who criticizes or disagrees with them.

People are being fired over celebrating Charlie's Kirk assassination. The right-wing folks responsible for this are the ones who normally complain about cancel culture; while the left-wing folks are getting a taste of their own medicine.

This is going way beyond cancel culture. It's one thing for private individuals to try to orchestrate a pressure campaign against those whose views they don't like; quite another for the full powers of the federal government to be applied to that end.

This could turn out to be worse than McCarthyism. McCarthy eventually lost the support of his own party and the Supreme Court made a number of decisions protecting free speech. This time the chief instigator is a President whose own party is submissive and it's hard to be confident this Supreme Court will rein him in.
