It's a war Ukraine can't win. They don't have a sufficient population.

Putin needs to stop and getting him to the negotiation table has a greater chance to save Ukrainian lives than continuing the same thing - which isn't working.

There has been cases in history were much smaller countries have punched well above their weight. The Soviet Union suffered 4.6 to 5.4 times more military casualties than Finland during the Winter War in 1939/40.

They have a smaller population, but they have better weapons and unlimited funding from Western allies. Russia's military deaths is estimated to be around 2.5 times higher than Ukraine's and needs to sell gas and oil to fund the war. Russia is also using North Korean soldiers because they're running low on drug addicts, alcoholics and criminals to conscript. Russia still needs men to fuel the economy and conscript every male in the country.

Both countries are grinding each other down and there's now talk of European nations sending a multinational troop deployment to Ukraine with the backing of American capabilities, which could throw a massive spanner into the works.
