And crucially, how many people use a gun to kill when, for example, they could use it to threaten, or wound -you never seem to hear of some attacker being shot in the leg, for example. Also, since you fail to understand human psychology, most people use guns as a means for posturing. The average citizen doesn't want confrontation, the average citizen doesn't want to shoot anyone, the average citizen wants to live his life in peace.
