A relentless, enigmatic chase thriller in glorious countryside and beautifully shot. Highly recommended.
I'll second that recommendation - a dark and dense movie.........

The Wave - Die Welle (German, 2008 ) - high school teacher tries to teach students the power of a dictatorship through example, but it takes a wrong turn.

Hostel (2005) - had seen it before but got a better copy. Meh. Standard horror flick set in Eastern Europe
I've loved you so Long is.............long....BUT..........how can you not love seeing Kristin Scott Thomas as she reveals layer after layer of her character?! The woman is sublime on screen and who cares about the rest of the movie!

I thought Die Welle was better than average. It got tighter as it moved along and the ending though somewhat predictable (for me) was still powerful.

Agreed on Hostel....it was average except for the cinematography which I thought was really nice.

For a another Eastern European horror - have you seen Transsiberian?

I agree with you on all counts. In the Kristin Scott Thomas movie, the clues came out too slowly; the pace was sluggish. Due to that it was tough to support the character. I was getting restless and impatient waiting for her to open up. Ms Thomas did a great job looking like shit throughout the entire movie. I liked her relationship with the man who was courting her.

In the movie's defense, I had just finished watching a fast-paced French police drama, so I was on a different speed to begin with.

Transsiberian was more of a suspense than horror, no? with Ben Kingsley & Woody Harrelson? If so, no I didn't like it. Too formulaic for me. I liked the concept but bad execution, imo.

I want to recommend something for you.....

Hesher (2010) - wild HS kid squats in a family's home after a death and shakes things up
Half Nelson (2008 ) - about a HS teacher who befriends a student but is addicted to crack
Midnight in Paris (2011) - Woody Allen - guy goes into a time-warp into 1920's Paris and meets writers, painters, etc
The Lives of Others (2006) - German, secret police stuff
Carlos (2010) - 4 hour movie or mini-series about an int'l terrorist from the 70's through the early-90's. based on a true person

I've Loved you So Long is definitely worth seeing, but I wonder if the denouement is believable -? It rests on an assumption that only one person understood the medical data in question, and that doesn't ring true to me, and its not like its a small point given that someone spends 15 years in prison as a result.

As I said in my earlier post on the film version of Carlos, it is historically inaccurate, and I think that even the tv series chooses to avoid the early part of Carlos's career when he was in Jordan during 'White September', but I would consider watching all 4 hours if and when I can get it on dvd.

Agreed that Transsiberian had a good concept but execution could have been better. Really liked Woody Harrelson though and the atmosphere created was superb. Maybe it's because I spent a night on trains through Poland and Romania and could relate....

Thanks for the recommendations: the first three were on my list and I've seen Lives of Others which was very good but - I think - over-hyped and somewhat corny.

Interested in the Carlos flick - along similar theme watch The Baader-Meinhof Complex which I found to informative and enjoyable.

    Cheers!

Hostel II (2007) - same as the original only the main characters are girls. Not a gory or scary as the first. Almost seems like it spoof if the original. Not worth your time unless its free AND you're curious

The Exterminator (1980) - a vigilante takes things into his own hands after his Ex-Vietnam military buddy gets assaulted on the dirty streets of NYC. some great one-liners, but a B-movie nonetheless

The Hound of Baskervilles (1939) - Nigel Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes in a classic who-dun-it case. Simple but amusing.

Angel Heart (1987) - Mickey Rourke & De Niro in a 50's detective caper. Not as fun as it sounds, sadly, but you do get to see Lisa Bonet's tits! She's in her prime in this movie.

El Juego de la Verdad (2004) - Spanish comedy about 2 couples. One of the guys is (mis)diagnosed with a terminal disease and his dying wish is to sleep with his best friend's girl. Great light comedy. Enjoyable

Le Valet (France, 2006) - A valet has to pretend to be the boyfriend of a supermodel so she can continue an affair with a married man. Very funny and well paced. Good acting throughout

The Education of Charlie Banks (2007) - Two kids in college have a deviant childhood friend who comes to visit and shakes things up. Not an Eisenberg fan at all, but the movie doesn't hold water - little character development and denouement. 5/10

Gangs of New York. watched it for the first time last night. Wow, what a film. Daniel Day Lewis is brilliant.

Red Riding Trilogy. Pretty good. The 2nd and 3rd episodes were the best.
