We Need to Talk about Kevin
The farce has either just ended, or is about to enter a new phase. One gasps at the spectacle of an open democracy held hostage by Trump Puppies like Biggs Boebert and Gaetz, but this is what their party has come to. The Ultras, or more pertinently, the supporters of America’s domestic terrorists, are not so much under Kevin’s thumb, as under his nose.
Will they get what they demand- no policies to tackle homelessness, or poverty, or jobs, or the environment, but revenge for the attacks on Trump, a new phase in their aim to overhaul the political system to make it immune to anything and everything Democrats or for that matter, the People want?
January 6 was thus not an aberration, but a turning point, and for all his initial condemnation, it didn’t take long for Kevin to fall to his knees to shine Trump’s shoes.
What sort of victory leads to such potential failure? The challenge to democracy enters a new phase, but is America safe in Kevin’s hands?

Re: We Need to Talk about Kevin
It's hard not to feel sense of schadenfreude about McCarthy's humiliation after he went so far to abase himself with Trump and the MAGA crowd. Now he has the position he coveted, but at the cost of making himself powerless.
There's an obvious lesson from this about the folly of trying to appease fanatics, who will respond to concessions by demanding more. No doubt it won't be learnt.
Re: We Need to Talk about Kevin
The investigations should happen for oversight, but nothing of substance will get done because the senate and executive are still in dem control.

Any new Oversight investigations of January 6 will not address the gap in the records of phone calls into and out of the White House because the House is directed by the same people who joined in the attack on the American people, 147 of whom, including Kevin, rejected the right of the People to elect their President. Kevin is part of the problem not the solution. He only believes in a democratic vote if it is the result he wants. He has sworn an Oath to protect the Constitution but it appears he doesn’t believe in it. He has betrayed the trust of his voters. And betrayed the United States of America. He should be in prison, not the House of Representatives.

No America isn't safe in the hands of the Spineless Coward Kevin McCarthy, who begged and groveled, and sold his soul to the MAGA Caucus to become speaker of the House Of Representatives. And will have no input in what bills gets sent to the House Floor and voted. And will be the weakest speaker in US Congress history.

I agree that they are fanatics and they shouldn't be appeased when they make unreasonable demands. But I think it's easier said than done when they play the kind of high stakes blackmail with the debt ceiling, with the Supreme Court, and wherever else they've done it.
Not appeasing them when they threaten to allow us to default on sovereign debt might mean allowing them to destroy the economy when we can avoid it by caving. They would be at fault, but if you fail to avert a bad situation it might be politically smart because your opponents are more blameworthy but a net harm. Does not appeasing them mean that if they play dirty, for instance, by creating an exception to when the President can appoint Justices and then violate their own rule, that Democrats should do something unprecedented as an escalation?
I think it's very difficult to deal with this group of extremists because they accept destruction and harm as a cost of getting their way.

The only reason 20 or so fanatics can hold the remaining 200 hostage is if the latter refuse to do any bipartisan deals. I know that's unlikely to happen because they are all terrified of retaliation by the MAGA crowd, but cowardice is still a choice.
Re: We Need to Talk about Kevin
I guess the question now is if Kevin can control his party, and if he has the will to clip the wings of Marjorie Taylor Greene who now distances herself from the QAnon fantasy claiming she was misled by something on the internet! Duh!

The answer is no,the Spineless Coward Kevin McCarthy won't be able to control his party, because he made a deal with and sold his soul to the MAGA Caucus to become speaker. Marjorie-Qanon Karen-Taylor Greene is full of shit.
Re: We Need to Talk about Kevin
Outrageous, but not surprising is Kevin's reaction to the indictment-
"Alvin Bragg has irreparably damaged our country in an attempt to interfere in our Presidential election,” McCarthy tweeted. “The American people will not tolerate this injustice, and the House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of power to account.”
Donald Trump indictment: McCarthy says Congress will hold Alvin Bragg's 'unprecedented abuse of power to account' | Washington Examiner
Alvin Bragg was just doing his job. It was the American people -members of the Grand Jury-who indicted Trump, so who is holding power and alleged crimes to account?
But Kevin in Congress in 2020 did what he could to deny the American people the right to elect Biden as their President, so is anyone surprised that the man is now in effect waging a 'cold war' against those Americans who believe in the Rule of Law?
