Yes, the woman on the train committed a crime, but it's not a black and white issue. The 'victims' clearly had a part in escalating the emotional atmosphere, which led to the assault. There was a popular movie series starring Charle Bronson about a person going after bad guys who had harmed his family, though he was clearly breaking the law as a vigilante.

As far as the discrimination question; I do not belief transexuals have had it far worse. I say all discrimination is bad, so it is unimportant to try and decide who was treated worse, or compare injuries.

I am not comparing the two, but if you know the history of gay and trans people- we have been put through plenty of shit throughout history as well.

The Nazis killed hundreds of thousands of gays in concentration camps,
in this country until just a few decades ago you go be jailed, beaten, harrased for going to a gay bar or dressing like a woman- something that became legal in NYC just in the late 60's. Throughout American history there have been many political movements set out to opress LGBT people(which are still going on heavily). Trans women face a a multitude of discriminations in today's society both socialy and economically and trans people are still being killed for being trans people. And to be fair, the African American community, as stated by the President himself, has been less than kind and accepting of LGBT people as well on many occassions- something that I don't understand considering what black people have faced in the US.

While it's impossible to compare the two situations, please don't minimilaze the fact that gays and trans people have been persucted in this heavily country and still are. Please don't minimize that or state that the stuggles that trans women face are somehow trivial.

This video clip in fact is a great example of what some ts women face all the time.

But since you chimed in, let me give you one more reason you should never compare what blacks have gone thru to what gays have. We were born this way. We can't change our skin color. First, someone who is part of this community should very well know that transitioning is absolutely NOT a choice. By saying so, you are adding to the ignorant social stigma that exist by those who have no understanding of what this gender is, and I assume you have some sort of understanding\? I was born this way- I HAD NO CHOICE. If I had not done this I would most like be DEAD by now. I had absolutely no choice in the way that I was born- how effiminate I was and how I naturally acted like a girl and suffered dearly for it growing up. I have always acted and had the same manorisms since I can remember, I just simply chnaged the physical apperance to fit my actions, behavior, and mind.

Was it my choice to be taunted, bullied, and abused by other kids fromt he time I was five years old for being so feminine and living with that abuse until I was 16? NO

Was it my choice to have been beaten up by a gang when I was 18 for appearing to feminine? NO. I was beaten up, my skull cracked and was called a fag all the way through it. That is a HATE crime.

I was simply born a way that I could not hide or change, it's just who I am and trust me I have paid the price for it. I am a lucky one that I was able to transtion which indeed has been a blessing as far I am much more happier but that does not mean that I still can't face discrimination and social stigma.

What about Leslie Mora, who was attacked by two men in Queens this summer as she was going home. They beat her with a belt right on the street as they called her 'faggot, left hr bloody and cowering on the floor' until a car stopped and helped her.

What about Carmella Etienne who was simply walking on the street a few days later in Queens also ,when two men began to assult her throwing bottles and rocks at her? And when she threatned to call he police
"One of the two men responded, "The police don't care about you, they won't do anything to us," and began to pelt her with bottles. Another shouted at her, "Don't ever walk that block anymore or we will slash your throat."


As you can't change your skin color, I can't change my gender and who I am.

So please- as you are educated in the the history of the plight for equality of blacks in this country-you should become a little more educated on LGBT issues and what WE have gone through and go through still.

Everything you've said is sadly true, and I feel for you as I do for ALL of my M2F sisters, Allanah. I might add that the number of LGBT people slaughtered by the Brown Shirts, the SS, the Nazis, etc is now thought to be actually much higher due to the fact much of it was unreported and the incidents were more isolated.

The men of color here, most of whom remain sheepishly anonymous, are trying to out-victimize us when they have relatively very little to bitch about within their own lifetimes. I'd even put forth the idea that somewhere today, hundreds-if-not-thousands of "male" children in this country alone have been either ostracized or bullied for being "fags", and have yet to even suspect that they might very-well actually be struggling with gender issues and not neccesarily their sexuality. Meanwhile, far more African American kids are being praised in today's social climate for their "street credibility" and being grandfathered in to "urban culture". That's the irony, unfortunately.

Let's be honest. Almost everyone with a dick gets a pat on the back for wanting to join the army, become a cop, acting "thug", or fist-fighting. But if you don't, you get reminded of how there's something "wrong with you" by a world filled with inhumane scumbags. People just love to tell you what your "problem is", when often they themselves are the real only problem.

I was humiliated, often ganged up on, and beaten throughout grade school. I had a large bottle thrown at my head at age 16 from a passing car as I walked alone in a gay neighborhood of Manhattan. I've had friends who've been beaten and raped, or were made to feel so badly that they simply destroyed themselves. I've had my life threatened on more than one occasion. I've been beaten, choked, and had a tooth bashed out of my face as an adult.

And at this point, I'm not getting clocked but it still never ends. I went to the hospital ER about 6 months ago, and heard a variety of improper comments. And forget about a job interview - all it takes is one background check on a SS# to be shot down for an "unofficial" reason.
