Re: What is The Last Movie You Watched?
Just saw "BURLESQUE" with On Demand. A whole lot better than I thought it would be. Christina Aguilera is looking hot and sounding great. I have to admit that even Cher looks pretty good for 90 years old. Even she belted out a couple good numbers. But Christina owned the entire movie.

At last! The successor to Pauline Kael. You have a truly cosmopolitan sensibility for the art of cinema, Jericho.
Well, maybe not Cosmopolitan, more the Big Bazonkas end of the market..... :wiggle:

The Messenger - newly released in UK, out in the USA for some 18 months. A very downbeat film about war - a soldier in final months is ordered to join the detail who must break news of casualties to the nearest and dearest of the slain. it's a very sobering film and a good antidote to all those dumb ass films like Rambo. It joins The Hurt Locker and Restrepo and Armadillo and Lebanon as sensible films about the complexities and costs of combat.

about to watch Brazil while webcamming :)
Re: What is The Last Movie You Watched?
There is a John Wayne film where, at the end, he goes off to write letters to the families of the men who died in the war -I think its the civil war but I can't recall. A poignant moment, not sure if an entire film on the subject is excessive. I didn't like The Hurt Locker or that other one set in the Emerald City with Matt Damon -the only half-way decent film to come out of the Iraq experience was In The Valley of Elah.
Has anyone seen Tank? I thought Waltzing with Bashir was awesome.
Re: What is The Last Movie You Watched?
The Valley of Elah was one of films of that particular year. Hugely underated and nowhere near as successful as it should have been. Try Armadillo (documentary about a danish unit in Afghanistan) or Lebanon (film about israeli tank team in the Lebanon) and yes Waltzing with Bashir was fabulous. You might also then like Lemon Tree.

Do you mean the Green Zone with Matt Damon? I thought it was a brilliant film. The most poingnant moment was right at the end just before the closing credits where the American troops were driving along the Iraq highways in their humvees and the camera pans & pulls out to show them driving towards all the oil refineries in the distance. Some hidden depth in that shot with regards to America's perceived involvent in the whole affair.
The other good film set in that part of the world I thought was Body of Lies with Leonardo di Caprio & Russel Crowe, again quite thought provoking.
