Re: What are you listening to NOW?
A brilliant parody of John Lennon by National Lampoon. Not heard this in years.

Re: What are you listening to NOW?
William Byrd's setting of Savanarola's prison lyric Infelix Ego [1591] -a curious symmetry in time: Savanarola led a popular revolt against the corrupt Medici replacing their licentious republic with an austere Catholic theocracy that people soon wearied of -in revenge he was imprisoned for heresey and eventually burned at the stake. Byrd was an exile in his own country, escaping the persecution visited on other Catholics. Less than a century later, albeit in a slightly different context, the English, too, would tire of (Cromwell's) religious extremism. Nevertheless, the way the soprano voice at the climax loops around misericordiam tuam is breathtakingly beautiful.
