if you do cross someone, yes they could set you up, and that is common. so just do not cross someone who knows something they can screw you with. because that is what it is most of the time.
do NOTHING illegal in their presence. if they offer to show you where to get drugs or some other illicit thing, simply say no thanks. freelancers may be under age and that is another problem all together and a really big one, as it should be. bars no longer employ girls under 18 (99.99% of the time).
