It's criminal the way mediots and radio personalities continue to misrepresent this statistic and don't do an age group break down; the number of Black men, 18 - 24, in college versus how many Black men of the same age group are in prison.
If people knew that in 2001, 635,198 Black men, (18-24), attended college, and that 189,200 Black men of the same age were in prison, so-called experts about the sorry condition of the Black community would just shut up!

Well, I hate to receive credit when credit isn't due me, I wasn't the one who posted that link (the quote tags are all messed up).
I really don't know much about the stats on this, all I can say is- if the link can be trusted, it's an interesting statistic. I wish we had more accurate #s and newer ones to work with, 2001 was almost 10 years ago. Alot can change (for the better or worse) in that time.
The other thing that may be misleading is directly comparing blacks to whites in population stats, being as the two groups do not have an equal population. It is not as if 50% of the US is white, and 50% is black.
