I would HOPE that if these were the kids of anyone on HA, they'd have been raised to know better for one, and for second- that said parent would have intervened and halted their behavior before it went any further.

True, kids rarely hold back their feelings when they see someone they feel is different.
But allowing kids to do stuff like this, or worse- encouraging it, is what establishes the mindsets that cause discrimination in the first place.
How people reproduce & raise kids is how society is duplicated. If that means encouraging kids to target people who they identify as different or odd, then that is going to have a snowballing effect throughout the rest of society; eventually causing violence, job discrimination, failure to protect the civil liberties of others, etc.
