Realized? Yes but acted upon definitely not she should have been taken from her parents she ended up morbidly obese for many years which is very unhealthy also a sign of very deep depression. A child has no business making long term medical decisions. As adults we do even 18 even though that's still very young we are very different at 35 then at 18.

And the Emotional/Psychological aspect? With regard to family, friends, neighbours and at school -I suggest it is more than just a 'social transition' and maybe you intended to include the psychological without saying so.
