I read in a Hermann Hesse story about Germany in the early twentieth century. They were quizzical about a nation run by a "civil servant" Back then the Mayor or King or whatever was like a Father figure to the village or country. Lots has changed in the last hundred years. I went to France once. The waiter was rude.

FFS Russ, taking a balanced or let's say "tolerant" view doesn't make you a card-carrying fellow traveller.
