Uh? You don't have to live in the Bay Area to know this. BART police officers are, like most transit police around the nation, sworn law enforcement officers with full arrest powers. AMTRAK Police, MTA Police in NY and CT, PATH Police in NYC/NJ, MBTA Police in Boston and so forth.
Well, I don't live in any of those places, & it still doesn't answer the question. The dog catcher is a sworn law enforvement officer. So's the meter maid & the park ranger that takes you on the guided tour of Old Faithful. So let me clarify.
The question is: Are these guys actual trained police officers, or does BART just hire anybody off the street who doesn't have a sheet?
There's a big difference between going through the police academy & just being burley & thinking it's cool to be packing at work.
There's a bunch of added responsibility that goes along with enhanced powers, so I'm just wondering if these guys have a clue. I don't see any spin for this. It's just such a blatant lynching, & it was done in the middle of a crowded station full of people with cell phones. Seen a cell without a camera in it lately? This has stupid written all over it.
