I think that is true Russtafa, unless it is music that is created to express a particular viewpoint - one with which you agree or disagree. So The Internationale, The red Flag, The Horst Wessel song are all pretty hard to hear away from their political contexts.
And yes - who gives a damnif Ella or Lady day or Hendrix or 1001 other people had any association with drugs. The music totally transcends their personal lives. I suppose the same COULD be said of Gary Glitter.... (except his music is largely crud (imho)
Mind you in the light of his later - erm - convictions how does this sound?
