"Bringing Up Baby" with Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn. An old movie that, for some reason, I'd never seen before. Deeply silly but very cute and funny.

Amour (Michael Haneke, 2012)
Haneke recreated his parent's apartment, and based this film in part on the death of his Aunt. The acting from Trintignant, Riva and Huppert is superb, and if you do not stray too far outside the confines of the film this is one of Haneke's best. The problem is that it raises a moral question and as he has done before, Haneke manipulates the moral feelings of his audience while claiming to be neutral. For this reason a compelling film, if only for the stunning performance by Emmanuelle Riva. The film does not tell the whole truth about looking after someone as ill as the Riva character, but that doesn't matter. The film pays homage to Tarkovski with the music of Bach (the chorale prelude that is also used in Solaris, Wir Ruft zu dir, Herr Jesus Christ).

Blind Chance (Krysztof Kieslowski, 1981)
Kieslowski made this film film in 1980 but it wasn't shown until 1987 for political reasons. The film begins on an aeroplane that is seen at the very end, and offers three narratives of a man running after a train from Poznan to Warsaw, and either catching it or not -leading into three different stories all of which end with the possibility of that plane journey from Warsaw to Paris. I can't quite put my finger on it but there is something cold about Kieslowski's films which prevents me from loving them; they are great to watch, good scripts, good acting, but I wonder if he is too intellectual a film-maker-? His third feature after Scars, and Camera Buff, and one of his best films.

Currently watching Ghost Rider, christ, Nicolas Cage is such an amazing actor. I don't think I've ever seen him do a bad movie
Safety Not Guaranteed
saw it on Netflix...I like small quirky films like this. Aubrey Plaza is cute in it.
