The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
Gillian Welch's new album, The Harrow and the Harvest, her first new offering since 2003 and worth every minute of the wait.
Nothing available yet on youtube, so here's a sample from an earlier album. She writes and sings songs that sound as if they had their origins in the middle ages in England and were then transported across the Atlantic with the pilgrims. This is a wonderful murder ballad - and the lead guitar work is astounding.

I also just got that Gillian Welch album. Fantastic.
Yep. People who sneer at the word "country" would get into a wholly different world if they really listened to her. As I said, these are songs all written by her, but they could have been written any time in the last six hundred years.
And David Rawlings - and I'm speaking as a pro acoustic guitarist - is one of the very best in the field.
People shouldn't sneer at country - there are many and have long been many hugely talented people in the field - old country and new.
The Blue Nile with a song from my old mate Paul Buchanan. First time I heard this on the radio I had to pull the car over and cry.
