So I think it breaks down to these fundamental questions:

1) Is what one says reflective of someone's ignorance?;

2) Is how one says it discernably different than what one says?;

3) Does it matter?

I think it does matter. I think you can be generally ignorant about certain facts regarding an issue, have an opinion about that issue and yet pose questions that may ultimately challenge your own ignorance without being racist, homophobic, genderist, etc. I think it's called learning.
