Edgar Allen Poe married his 13 year old cousin, Virginia Clemm, when he was 26. This was quite respectable in Baltimore at the time, as well as in England, Europe and many other places around the world. Today, pious "orthodox" Mormon men have multiple wives and 13 is not a uncommon age for a woman in a Mormon compound to enter wedlock.
