Texas trans woman arrested for using female toilet
A trans woman in Houston, Texas, has been arrested after using a female toilet in a library.
Tyjanae Moore was arrested by police last Wednesday for “knowingly entering a restroom of the opposite sex” but trans groups say her arrest was unlawful.
Ms Moore said she told police she was in the process of transitioning.
She pleaded guilty to using an opposite gender restroom and was given credit for the two nights she spent in jail.
Speaking to Fox News, Ms Moore said: “I felt so belittled going to a jail over something so simple and stupid.
“When I came out, the female [officer] told me I wasn’t supposed to be and I asked if there was any particular reason why not. She said I’m a transgendered female and I was really shocked that they even stopped me for this.”
Trans groups say her arrest was unlawful because a city ordinance passed by Houston this year allows trans people to use the toilets which correspond to their new sex.
The ordinance says: “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly and intentionally enter any public restroom designated for the exclusive use of the sex opposite to such person’s sex without the permission of the owner, tenant, manager, lessee or other person in charge of the premises, in a manner calculated to cause a disturbance.
Cristan Williams, executive director of the Transgender Foundation of America, which is based in Houston, said: “The arrest should have never happened.
“The City of Houston has given this victim explicit permission to use a restroom consistent with their gender.
“This means that the library patron was acting in a manner consistent with both state and local law. Since she broke no law, this is a case of unlawful arrest and imprisonment.”

Once again I have to write another one of these stories in which some cisgender person starts tripping because a transperson has to use the bathroom and they have a problem with it..
26 year old Tyjanae Moore was at the downtown Houston Public Library location November 17 when she had to use the restroom. After handling her business she emerged and was confronted by a female security officer backed up by an HPD officer she gotten involved in the situation by telling him there was a 'man' in the women's restroom. .
Moore was subsequently arrested by the po-po for using the fracking bathroom appropriate to her gender presentation.

Mayor Parker earlier this year issued Executive Orders 1-8 and 1-20 which expanded Houston's anti-discrimination ordinances and give trans city employees and citizens permission to use the bathroom of their choice appropriate to their gender presentation.
Of course the local Fox Noise affiliate had to come up with another of their ridiculous poll questions that I need y'all to vote on . Our right wing haters are in full throat about it wanting Republican Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to rule on the legality of Mayor Parker's executive orders.

Today, I finally got hold of him and challenged him to another debate. He agreed and this is my proof. I'm expecting him to behave a lot like NephilimFree and self-sabotage a debate, but I'm going to do everything I can do to have another chance to trounce his bigoted ideology

Earlier today I tweeted about a poll on Fox News that asked, “Would you be bothered by a transgendered person being in a public restroom with you?”. Neil Gaiman kindly re-tweeted it, as a result of which I think we handily crashed the poll and I got my handle RT’d all over the place.
Some people asked me questions about the poll, which I will try to address here.
The reason the poll exists is because of this story. Tyjanae Moore, a trans woman living in Houston, was arrested and jailed for using the ladies’ restroom because, in the opinion of the arresting officer, she was “really” a man. This is despite the city’s non-discrimination ordinance covering gender identity enacted earlier this year. The story was covered on the local Fox affiliate, hence the poll.
I’m not sure why the link to the poll was anonymized, but I’m guessing that it was done to enable trans people to vote without risking being tracked by people working for Fox. I got the story from a trans activist in London, and I suspect she got it from Monica Roberts, who is a native of Houston.
Some people also asked what the heck this is all about. For the benefit of those of you who don’t follow US news, the American right currently has its knickers well and truly in a twist over the “dangers” of trans people in bathrooms. Remember, as far as “Christian” fundamentalists are concerned, a trans woman is “really” a man, and a trans man is “really” a woman. So the Forces of Idiocy want to require people like this to use the men’s restroom:

Can you guess why fine, upstanding “Christian” men want the likes of Miss Addams (above) in their toilet? I can. And I don’t think it is anything to do with “protecting” women.
Of course is they are going to be consistent the same should apply the other way around. Are there hordes of concerned “Christians” demanding that people like this use the women’s toilet?

Update: Shortly after I went to bed I got a tweet telling me that the poll had closed. When Monica first tweeted about it Yes was at over 44%. When the poll closed it was down to 16%. Thank you, everyone!

Just curious... What exactly is the benefit of recruiting people to skew the results of this poll, particularly as it decides nothing anyway? I mean, I could see if this would settle the "bathroom debate" one way or the other, but as it doesn't... What's the point?

In Baltimore they never file hate crime charges against black thugs. I doubt very much they will do in this case either, even with the national outrage I doubt there will be hate crime charges files. It would surprise me if they did.
Here's something ironic,,,, history has strange ways of being made and wouldn't it strange if this tgirl became the Rosa Parks of the transgender,, for wanting to use the bathroom of her choice and these others tried to deny her that right,,, If this is so, then the black girls and their watchers in the crowd will be playing the part of the klan. Ironic.
