Fear of the Black Man (Are They Trying to Have Him Killed?)

When someone in a crowed yells something inappropriate or truly hateful a real leader would take charge and throw some water on the fire. A real leader would interrupt with, “No, no, no that's not the reaction I’m seeking, that is precisely the wrong attitude,” or words to that effect. The fact the neither McCain nor Palin have demonstrated responsible leadership in these situations tells us what sort of leaders they would be in the White House. But the reality here is worse than that: McCain and Palin are engaged in deliberately inciting exactly this sort of hatred. Their behavior and their attitude are appalling and shameful, and frankly, I’m already sick and tired of having to be ashamed of my president’s diminutive moral stature. We don’t need another four years of moral vacuum in White House posing as patriotic religiosity.

McCain grabbed the mike from a looney old lady who referred to Obama as an Arab. he sort of denied it and said Barack was a decent family man
then the crowd started to boo loudly and he changed the subject.

it's definitely scary seeing the kind of people showing up at the McCain-Palin rallies

You guys don't remember back in 1964 when they tried to discredit Barry Goldwater by saying he was somehow half Jewish. (he wasn't, just had a Jew name)

What so fucked up about Muslims being the hated group de jour is that Jews are the number 1 propagators of the hatred for Muslims right now.

You know it's the oddest thing to me that white people are suddenly claiming people that are mixed black/white. I would assume that there could only be two things going on with these people. The first thing that comes to mind is that it's a way of discrediting someone that's African American from being able to claim pride being Obama. It's as if you're saying "black, he's not black. if he were there's no way he would be where he's at so don't go around feeling all happy about yourselves."

Or the other thing it could be (and this is giving you the benefit of the doubt which I'll be glad to do) is that you're not from America and don't understand American culture. So allow me to explain.

See here in America since the first "bi-racial" black/white person existed in this country that person was never referred to as any race other than black. If you had a "bi-racial" mother and a white father, guess what, you were black.

Now as African Americans we are a very accepting people so if you were "bi-racial" we didn't look at you as somehow stained the way that whites did we saw you as black.

It is however a fact that Barack Obama's mother was white but he sees himself as an African American. Not as any dis to his mother or the rest of the white side of his family, but more so as a reality withing him of what America really is and how all Americans saw him and classified him (prior to his Presidential run). Until you start hearing him referring to himself as bi-racial (or as you said by the same logic white) then you shouldn't refer to him as anything but black. No matter how you guys want to frame it you can't take the pride away from us. It's not happening so try something else. Fortunately for you though he's here to represent all of us.

When people say 'Obama ain't black!' I don't think the majority of them think it's because he's bi-racial, but because he had a cushy upbringing compared to other black leaders. He wasn't born in some run down shack on the bayou, nor was he blind the first 10 years of his life or whatever. He didn't help his alcoholic mentally ill mother by picking cotton. Ya that's right, that's black! I jest.

No I didn't read the whole first post, just browsed and paraphrased. But you know, this isn't the first fear of the black man post out there. Does it matter that McCain and Palin associate with a racist crowd? No. These people will vote republican anyway. And by not doing anything about it, they're pushing more and more undecided people away. Good job McC.

I don't care about Obama's color, really. I have no problem with him being an ex-lawyer and so on. Fine, he's black, whatever. I wish I could say that I wish Obama got elected just so that this race thing went away and come next election, half the participants were non-white. But I really hope neither major party candidate gets elected. McCain is insane, even without Palin, and Obama whatever he says, is full of it. This is a guy whose posse consists of the rich elite scumbags that keep the rich rich by trampling on the poor. Obama does not care about the poor man in the ghetto, whatever that man's color is. Obama cares about the money lobby that got him elected. This has been shown by president after president, and still somehow, people fall for this Change garbage.

Wow, I am old, I vaguely remember the disparaging comments about
Barry Goldwater. :shock:

However, if Obama was a Muslim, which he is not, why would that
be problematic?

Is it because America and Europe has a propensity to glorify and defend
all things Judeo-Christian, and to demonize all things Islamic.

What we have done in the West is objectified Muslims and made them
modern day 'boogey men', much as we did the so-called 'godless
Africans, Native American, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Russian' or
whatever group we were at odds with, who were different than us, and
whose goals did not meet our's.

Islam is not a religion of violence and terrorism. There is nothing in the
Suras of the Qu'ran, the hadiths, that advocates violence.

I will concede that there are elements of Sharia law that are draconian in
their implementation, particularly vis-a-vis gays. Yet we see that there
are fatwas or edicts issued by Imams allowing gender re-assignment
surgery.
