Its hilarious to me how so many people bash hip hop and rap and dont bash alternative or heavy metal around here. Some of you guys have no clue how many deep and meaningful rap/hiphop songs are out there and I could give a few examples but whats the point if you dont listen to it anyway. So many people that dont listen to hiphop are just trying to take it for "face" value, instead of broadening their horizons. Speaking of ignorance in hiphop, how about you take a look at the cartoon Metalocalype and see if you can draw any meaning from the show or the songs.

After spending 8 years in the US Marine Corps serving this country with honor. I came home to start my life and live the american dream. The dream that says we're all created equal and everyone has the opportunity in this country to be what you want to be, and have the things the dreams promises if you work hard and apply yourself. I graduated from college, and went out looking for a job in the bussiness world. Showed up in suit just as handsom as I could be. I got passed over at so many jobs I started to question myself but kept the faith. Until one day the person who got the job sat next to me and wished me luck after a long conversation about our backgrounds and futures. Turns out he was not a college grad, he never lead 60 men into battle, he didn't have a much experience as some of the older gentlemen applying, and he wasn't as well dressed or confident as me. The only thing he did have as far as I could see was the color of his skin. BUT I Don't hate him because him benifited from our system I wished him good luck.
The man standing next to me could be wearing baggie jeans falling off his ass and be rapping about his car and his bitch and I'd think it was stupid but I would still treat him as a man until he proved otherwise.
It's not what you wear or your music or your hair or your attitude even Should we all look alike and dress alike maybe we should wear uniforms. do you think another country would want yellow uniforms instead of pink or can we all just get along

This is the PC stuff i'm talking about.
If i am an employer and I have a ex-military person that led people, and most likley has a clearance, I will not think of him in the same light as a guy that showed up to a job interveiw with his pants falling down. If you show up to a funeral in a bikini, or have a shaved head with swastika tatooed on your forehead, I might pre-judge your actions as well. That might be enough for me not to even give you a chance.

I never understand why I post to these threads, but conscience guides my fumble fingers across the keys whenever the subject appears.

And I've only had two beers so far, so this shouldn't be overly garbled. :)

Minor points, as his overall concept/viewpoint came through admirably. His spelling is far better than some I have seen scrawled across the legal pads of attorneys pleading cases in Federal court and his grammatical skills shine above those of some technogeeks I know that are pulling down exponentialy larger salaries than mine.

Not knowing the individual personally, I can't speak to whether it was appearance, personality, race, or 'Junior High' level spelling that ran against him at his interviews, but I give him points for an intelligent first post. Hell, I think mine was "Wow, nice tits!".

I keep seeing reference to Affirmative Action. While it seemed like a good idea at the time, all it accomplished was to change the ambient color tone of the American culture. It really didn't provide any kind of viable fix and, in fact, begat an odd little side-effect: Reverse discrimination.

While I am sure that Affirmative Action gave inroads to many people who would not otherwise have been in reach of education and employment opportunities previously denied them (Completely) because of the color of their skin, it's overall effect was nothing more than a mask of true (And continuing) problems.

An example: In the late '70's/early 80's the Boston Police Department eliminated the written exam from the entrance tests for academy applicants. The reason was because too many people of color were failing the test and therefore jeopardizing the department's Affirmative Action quotas.

So, rather than repair a failing education system, the city chose to hire stoopid cops (Not just black, but white, hispanic, etc.). Instead of improving reading programs, English curiculum, etc. which would have raised the bar for =all= students in the city, they chose instead to eliminate one of the intellectual challenges of the position and issue weapons to people that had difficulty reading a STOP sign. :x

In the end, the human race, as a whole, is too fucked up to fix properly. We just have to bind it up with cultural duct tape as best we can and hope that it holds out for the next hundred miles or so.
