I used to be vehemently opposed to legalizing prostitution, but then I actually got to know some escorts (GG and TS). I don't think it should be legalized on the basis of "it's consenting adults" or some other libertarian angle. It should be legalized for one legit reason: the protection of the prostitute and the elevation of women's (and all) rights. Thugs like the ones who attacked Eva view prostitutes as an easy target to rob, rape, or otherwise get their kicks because they know that the person they are attacking likely have an innate fear or distrust of the police, as well they should in most cases. This especially needs to happen now that we are living in a time without pimps. Pimps are still around for sure, but with the advent of craigslist, eros, backpage, etc. they seem to be far less used than before.

Legalize it! Protect everyone under the law! Some feminists believe that it would only further denigrate women. However, I would argue that it would do further good to combat the "rape schedule" that all women live by? Wtf do I mean by "rape schedule"? Think about it. As a woman, you do all these little things to avoid that danger. Leaving or not leaving the house at a certain time, having a trusted male walk you to your car, carrying your keys in your hand as you walk to the car, rituals revolving around making sure your drink is not spiked, and it goes on and on and on and on. The rape schedule is so ingrained that it isn't even recognized or discussed, and it is a detriment to all of us that our society doesn't protect women as well as men. Now, just think about how much more intricate the rape schedule of an escort must be........

I was much younger, and was of the mind that we, as a society, should not put our stamp of approval on something that is basically a system of inequality. While I am sure there are some happy and healthy sex workers out there, all you need to do is look at that groups statistics on life expectancy, rape, abuse, and drug addiction to see that it is not a life someone consciously "chooses". All that being said, leaving sex workers open to attack by keeping their activity illegal is not going to solve the problem, only exacerbate it. The system of illegality itself is also highly unequal. Just look at how prostitutes are treated in the legal system as opposed to their Johns.

So, from a pragmatic and humane point of view, I can now see that by legalizing the sex trade we can aim to protect the sex workers while not necessarily giving our approval to the situation they are in.

A post-pimp world.

Like flies and maggots, pimps do have place in the natural order.
If Eva had a serious pimp, these dudes might have been found in an alley somewhere.

Not to jack this thread, but pimps don't generally murder low earners.

A TS pimp can't go out and automatically replace an escort like Eva anyway.
I'd think at most he'd bitch about how little she was bringing in and deal with it.
I'm talking about the protection angle anyway.
In many cases a pimp acts as a referral. He knows the clientele and he would know who these guys were that attacked her before anyone in law enforcement and 'dealt' with it.

i've never heard of a single pimp who did anything to protect a prostitute- except maybe paying their bond (but even then, they do it with the hookers money).

do you honestly think a pimp would go around enforcing justice for his girls? pimps usually beat their hookers regularly just to maintain loyalty and instill fear. if a hooker is hurt, the first person i'd look into was either a pimp or a regular john
