Ho-ho, or maybe ho-hum...if I ever write my article on Music in the Movies, The Third Man will be up there with Elvira Madigan and The Piano as examples of barbarism, torture, unintelligence and however many other nasty words I can find to complain about the abuse of music in films. I feel a migraine coming on just thinking of that damn zither.
Chungking Express is ok, its not a great movie but not a bad one either -in fact, its a Wong Kar-Wai movie which means it begins strongly and evaporates half-way through so that by the time you are near the end you can't remember why you are watching it.
I just watched The Mechanic, so you see, I am not such a snob. But after PINA, I have to admit, it was an anti-climax. I like Jason Statham, he just can't dance.

We agree! Music killed The Third Man......given the brilliant cinematography and great story music was unnecessary. Agree also with the assessment of Chungking Express......it seemed intriguing at the start and then just degenerated into absurdity.
BTW, watched Treasure of the Sierra Madre recently and found that to be outstanding.....little in the way of overwrought music or visual distractions to take away from the story.
Re: What is The Last Movie You Watched?
I agree on this, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre was made at a time when studios expected a film to be made in three months on a tight budget, which is why so many of the 30s and 40s classics zip along with crisply written scripts and where the production and direction had to be focuse on storytelling -although there have been classics since, giving teams buckets of money leads to the kind of self-indulgence one associates with Spielberg -Jaws, after all, is still his best film, made in difficult circumstances on a limited budget.

"The Artist"--I don't understand all the raves. The one prior that I saw was "Incredably Close And Extremely Loud"--a fine movie, though one must understand the boy seems to have Arsberger Syndrone.
Re: What is The Last Movie You Watched?
Attempted to watch Red Tails tonight. Could only stomach the first 20 minutes before I left the theatre in disgust with the shit dialogue, predictable plot, and awful acting. Truly rubbish masquerading as historical drama and what's worse attempting to play the race card to lure viewers in. Stay away!

kate beckinsale is most gorgeous woman in the world. i can think of no woman hotter. i know its all a matter of opinion and perspective but she is my #1...g or t.
that said....back on topic.
i caught "The Woman In Black" last night. It opens on Friday. I recommend you see it if you like thrillers such as Dead Silence. Harry Potter does a good job trying not to act like Harry Potter. Its not oscar worthy but it will make you jump at all the right moments.

Shooters (from 2002), a bit of a mess, but entertaining.
