Man! The conferences I attend are hardly ever like that. Just young nerds vying for the attention of the established lights, interested only the best fit of theory to data. Not that there's anything wrong with vying for attention to prove you've got the best fit for the given curves.

Same thing really - all about optimization, reducing the mean square errors, hoping for convergence, and worrying about outliers. Just worry about your standard deviations if you are under a normal curve.:)

In the end, statistics are like whores, play with them long enough and they'll do anything for you!
