As I pointed out in another thread, there seems to be a tactic to undermine Bachmann though a selection of images that are either scary or ones that don't do her any favours. I think that's lame really, I would rather see her exposed to her greatest weakness: the details of policy making, and whether or not, for example, her personal views on homosexuality can be translated into federal policy, which I doubt. I also doubt that social policy issues which are undoubtedly important, will be vote-winners in 2012, but I assume they can set a tone in debate. But are Americans really mad about same-sex unions? I would have preferred to see a debate in Iowa or wherever, on one single topic: where are the next generation of jobs coming from?
At this stage, its all some kind of theatre. For what its worth, the Guardian in the UK seems to think Rick Perry is a shoe-in for the GOP. I also wonder if there is an as-yet unspoken phobia about a woman being Commander-in-Chief. Policy aside, the tone of coverage on both Palin and Bachmann -and it seems similar on both sides of the Atlantic- veers toward a degree of ridicule, absent, for example, with coverage of Ron Paul, Herbert Cain or Mitt Romney.
