Folk singer Michelle Shocked took the opportunity at a gig in San Francisco to make an attack on those who support the overturning of Proposition 8 which will re-establish the right of gay people to marry in California. Given her well-known anti-establishment and strongly left-wing credentials, this is quite a turnaround.

I am shocked... whoops sorry. I am disappointed that someone with Ms Shocked's credentials should suddenly offer this. But then the Left has no shining record when it comes to sexual politics.

But her statement on March 17th of this year seems to make much more of a moral distinction between homosexuality and fornication. Her current claim is, "When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilisation, and Jesus will come back."
Actually I agree that if "they...force priests at gunpoint to marry gays..." it will a break in the wall between religion and state. Though there are two points I would make in rebuttal. First of all I don't think gays want to marry priests :). Second, she radically overstates the liberal position (which is decidedly anti-gunpoint) on gay marriage.
When people start making you aware of consequences as these it's time to grab your coat and look for the exit. If they happen to be in your house kick them the fuck out as forcefully as need be.Quote:
