our a-hole in chief isn't the only one pardoning scoundrels and scumbags. Dueterte, the force behind the Philipine's infamous "drug war", pardoned the shithead who drowned a gorgeous transgirl in the toilet of the hotel room where he'd banged her.

This is such a travesty. In the first place, Pemberton used the so-called "trans panic" defense -- claiming he didn't know Jennifer Laude was a trans woman and that he responded without premeditation -- which is often used by defendants in cases like this, to argue for reduced culpability. The judge bought Pemberton's claim, even though it was totally contradicted by the physical and forensic evidence. As a result, he only received a sentence of 6 to 12 years, which if you look at the facts, is just horrifying. Whether or not Pemberton knew Laude was trans, he strangled her until she was unconscious and then put head face down in a toilet bowl, which caused her to drown. Not only does that shows a complete callousness and disregard for human life, but it also shows a calculated decision to cause or let Laude die, probably so she couldn't report him to the authorities for attacking her.
