I love Brasil from a distance, but damn parts of that country are rough.

I lived in Sao Paulo for two years, but that was quite a while ago (2002-2003).
One thing I did learn was as soon as you can after you arrive, go to a shoe store and buy a pair of Brasilian shoes.
The locals check out your shoes and you'll fit right in with a pair of local shoes. Sounds odd, but it worked.

hamdasl is right, I traveled Latin America only wearing locally bought clothes (and shoes, not brand names). Most people thought I was Argentinian, in the north of Brasil they thought I was Gaucho (South Brazilian). Besides the fact that you draw less attention, prices tend not to be inflated to dollar level. Stayed in a place in Peru, I was asked 10 Soles, another guest from my country was asked 10 Dollar (both have the $ sign).

And if you think the quality of the clothes would be bad, have another look at the gif Nikka posted! That is one strong well made T-shirt, to carry an unconscious dude without tearing!

Oh, don't go to Rio now, everybody is a target now, since they're all foreigners!

There is better chance if you take a trip to the usa the united snakes of assassins the police will beat the shit out of you and lock you up for no reason than taking a ass whopping like that in brasil. if you look for troulbe anywhere u will find it, if you have a big mouth and cant hold your liquor u will find trouble.

i spent a week in Sao Paulo, roaming the streets and clubs at all hours of the day, and had no problem.

In total I have spent nearly 3 years in Latin America. Have never been bothered. My 2 favourites are Brazil and Colombia. Any tgirl admirer who hasnīt
been to Sao Paolo and Rio is missing out on the experience of a lifetime.

I have been to SP few times some years back, never had any issue. I had more issues in Thailand than Brazil.

The guy who got knocked out was probably drunk.

Sao Paulo is less dangerous than Rio. I have to say I have visited both cities a few times and never had a problem.
