Three weeks ago I put money on England to win, and see no reason to regret that bet.

With respect I don't think you need post updates on the score, a better option would be to discuss the games. France just won last night but had Romania been able to put away the chances they had it would be a different story. France has a talented team and I expect them to reach the semi-finals, but in reality it is too early to say and there are under-estimated teams like Slovakia, Sweden and Portugal that must also be watched closely.

Hmmm..so your team is 1-0 ahead and there are 3 minutes of extra time -what do you do? You shut the game down, the Italians call it Catenaccio...or not, and give the opponents one last opportunity to score...

Congratulations to Wales on a fine performance, albeit against a feeble Russian team, with Bale now leading goalscorer in the competition so far. They now win the group whereas Roy Hodgson made a mess of his changed line-up with the possibility of facing Portugal in the next round, assuming Portugal make it that far.
One also notes that the USA has reached the semi-finals of the Copa America, where they will play Argentina. Good luck with that one!

Great game by Wales. :D great execution, russians played with little innovation! Also It seems that postgame it was quite calm, which is good, I hear the main hooligan bastards left France that same day when they caused the ruckus. ''Proved their might'' as they boast.
Today some fine games ahead as well, and on an unrelated note, Cavs finally won the NBA title! Great story line there. :)

(We) always over-estimate our players & the National team, probably down to ignorance and a lack of interest in other leagues. The English Premier league is not the best in the world and contains lots of talent from Europe and South America, managers & players alike. The English players assume they are superstars and heroes just by simply wearing the England shirt. Personally; I think they are a disgrace, they treated Iceland like a Sunday morning pub side & paid the price! The media don't help too.
The Manager must take some responsibility, he didn't choose players "in form" but stuck with household names.
Good luck to Iceland but I suspect they won't get past France in next round.
For me, Italy & Germany are the best two teams left but they play each other in the next round!

It was a bizarre day having seen Italy playing with imagination and skill, and the best organized team in the competition, and then watch England but it did reveal the chasm in quality between European and English teams. The FA are rolling in money and have done surveys that showed them how Spain and Germany have developed country-wide scouting and coaching to both identify and nurture talent where in the UK we just hope for the best that some lad will emerge off Hackney Marshes and be the next Bobby Moore, whereas these days the England team might as well be our entry in the next Eurovision Song Contest.

I concur with the above posts, a wonderful game of football, underlining the claim Belgium are an assembly of individuals rather than a team, Wales putting in the kind of team performance England can only dream about -not surprised Lukaku flopped as he is hugely over-rated but de Bruyne ought to have stepped up. The loss of experienced defenders weakened Belgium but Robson-Kanu's goal is one of the best I have seen in international football. And on this form one could see them beat Portugal, but without Aaron Ramsay I think they are weakened. But given everything else that has happened in the last 10 days anything is possible!

Have to say as an(ashamed)Englishman, re. football; the media(BBC)going completely OTT re. Wales win. I am not Welsh & care as much about them as any other team still left. Well done to any Welshmen out there, sure there's some on this forum?
Belgium need a new manager as the current guy is completely clueless. Why on earth Fellaini came on for 2nd half is totally beyond me! He is never an International player. Have to agree with Stavros re. Lakaku, for every goal he scores he misses a hat full! Wales fully deserved to win but let us all keep our feet on the ground. This is not tennis, calling players British because Andy Murray is a Scott. It's about 4 Nations and my Nation are out, deservedly so!
I had a feeling when Portugal scraped through that they may win the tournament though they far from deserve it.
Question; Does anyone know why the media make such a fuss over the Republic of Ireland every time they play? It's nothing to do with the UK!

The loss of Ramsay is going to hurt, but, confidence will take you a long way! :shrug And Robson-Kanu, what can you say, the cheeky fucker...I'm thinking he's got free beer for the rest of his life!

Portugal is not the first team to win a major tournament without having played sparkling football, and Ronaldo did not excel himself as expected, but after all the debate and discussion the simple fact is that France had three or four chances to score and failed, Portugal had I think two, and scored once. In slow motion the foul on Ronaldo looks worse as Payet was clearly not going for the ball. The overall standard of football at the tournament was good rather than outstanding, I think the best game for entertainment value and skill was Wales -v- Belgium.

Wales - Slovakia, Italy - Belgium, Czech republic - Croatia, These were all pretty good, then some others with many opportunities, overall wasn't a bad tournament in my opinion. :)
Sad, that Italy lost in the shootout, would have prefered a Portugal - Italy final tbh, but the end result was satisfactory to me, especially after Ronaldo was forced out of game. Do hope the injury is not too serious.

John Motson in a BBC article, quite nicely sums up my own thoughts on the tournament. "Euro 2016 has been a tournament of great moments, but not great matches."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36750398
Highlight for me was Buffon, proving at 38 that he's still one of the top keepers in the game, with an incredible reflex save from Mario Gomez's backheel.
Overall, I was disappointed by the quality on offer. On what planet is Pogba (a decent player, no more) worth £100 million?

I agree with you, particularly on Buffon, I would also put in a word for Tony Kroos and Aaron Ramsay who both shone in their creative roles. As for Pogba, he had a great opportunity to seize control of games and prove his worth, but did not, he was anonymous at the World Cup in Brazil too as I recall. It is his agent who has set the bar high and if the clubs who want him keep their heads, they will simply not play along with a figure of 100m which is insulting. Not even sure 20 million reflects his value. I think Griezmann is the only individual who can set his terms based on his performance, even if he did fail to score twice on Sunday.

True, tho got to give credit to Rui Patricio, that header was very clever and not all keepers would have made that save. :)

portugal were boring, but then doesn't matter in the end. Ronaldo mr. quasi-manager got hsi trophy, one more than Messi ever has. ;)
