Tm Hooper, director of The Danish Girl, a feature film about the life of the Danish painter Einar Wegener who had SRS in the 1930s and became Lili Elbe (the role is taken by Eddie Redmayne), has made the following comment about transgender actors:

"Access for trans actors to both trans and cisgender roles is utterly key. In the industry at the moment there is a problem: there is a huge pool of talent of trans actors, and access to parts is limited. I would champion any shift where the industry embraces trans actors. and celebrates trans film-makers.”

The full article can be read in the link below, but note the difference between the headline in The Guardian from which the quote above is taken, and the headline in The Telegraph Why Eddie Redmayne was perfect to play Lili; an article that does not contain the remarks Hooper made to the other paper.
