Seems there are a number of reasons why it happens

There are three main schools of thought about the causes of prostatitis. Each of the following linked pages will soon have additional information related to the potential cause.

Bacterial infection, (http://www.prostatitis.org/bacterialcause.html)
Auto-immune response or disordered immune response, (http://www.prostatitis.org/immunecause.html)
Neuromuscular, tension or physical injury problem (http://www.prostatitis.org/physicalcause.html)
Additional possible causes:

a uric acid disorder, (http://www.prostatitis.org/allopurinol.html)
prostate stones, (http://www.prostatitis.org/stones.html)
a urethral stricture, (http://www.prostatitis.org/strictures.html)
a rare tumor, (http://www.prostatitis.org/tumor.html)
prostate cancer, (http://www.prostatitis.org/cancerlinks.html)
benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, non-cancerous growth of the prostate), (http://www.prostatitis.org/bphlinks.html)
a food allergy, (http://www.prostatitis.org/allergies.html)
a yeast infestation, (http://www.prostatitis.org/yeast.html)
a specific yeast problem from the Genus Candida, (http://www.prostatitis.org/candidalinks.html)
or a virus. (http://www.prostatitis.org/virus.html)

So while not being a TG, it is something I deal with, and not bloody pleasant when it flares up, rather like being kicked in the nuts every 15 minutes
