What a strange question? Of course they can be offensive offensive. We know full well the words that offend African Americans,Jews and plenty of other groups and inviduals . If a middle aged woman is hugely obese for medical reasons to call her a hideous fat slag would offend. I could easily .concoct a sentence c which would be deeply offensive to the OP and she has, in the past, been deeply offensive with words.
