View Full Version : How Does The Word "Transfeminine" Sound

I like the sound of the word transfeminine better that "tranny" and "tgirl"...sounds sexy without being demeaning...it also seems right to use "trans" as you can see on the chart, so transgirl should also work since transwoman apparently does.

The level of vitriol around here lately has gone off the charts imho so perhaps we can use this educational resource to smooth things out a bit.

What does everyone else think?

People use TS and Tgirl ..and yes, sometimes Tranny because it's shorter than to keep writing transsexual (and less likely to be misspelled).

lol...your word is longer and even more likely to be misspelled.

An adjective is no replacement for a couple nouns.

You can shorten it to Transfemmy...but that sounds to much like femme...and you see where that's heading.

i have no problem using "woman, lady/ladies, chick, girl, model, transwoman or tgirl" interchangeably.

except for those select few models that post otherwise here (those that specifically want to cloud the issue) i think most want to be referred to for the woman they are and woman they aspire to be so the words used to describe them should be no different than a woman who's birth genitalia match their present and desired gender.

now, on a porn board, where there is often a distinction for the sake of distinction, transwoman or tgirl are perfectly acceptable to me until I hear from the majority of girls that they don't want the "T".

It's not a winner of anything...the point is there's the need to have one word that meets 2 requirements:

1. It has to be acceptable to the M2F transgender population

2. It has to be acceptable to porn producers in that it clearly identifies what the product is

Since the educational resource sited in the o.p. uses the word "trans" as an acceptable form of shortening the words transgender and transsexual, it can be used as part of the word.

Transfeminine clearly is too long and/or clumsy so since shortening "transgender to "trans" is acceptable, it can be said shortening "feminine" to "fem" is ok.

So that leaves the word "transfem" as a word which satisfies both requirements.

Although by using the above logic it also would seem that "TGirl" fits the bill.

Just some random thoughts.

A transcontinental railroad carries passengers across a continent, potentially from one coast to another. A transgender jouney carries one across the gender continuum, potentially from one gender to another. A transplant involves uprooting a plant (or in medicine an organ), moving to a new location and replanting it. To transcend is to move beyond physical reality into the metaphysical beyond (whatever that is). The prefix “trans” connotes motion across. Transsexual seems perfectly fine to me, but what would “transfeminine” mean? Moving across the feminine, say from cheerleader to sophisticated lady? Or perhaps it refers to ovary transplantation? The word just doesn’t make sense to me. But that’s just me.

However, common usage within the transgender community has changed. Often (but not always) the root following the prefix “trans” denotes the endpoint of a long passage. So, thanks to common usage, “transwoman” now sounds normal to me. Okay, so back to “transfeminine.” In this word, as defined, the root “feminine” isn’t necessarily the endpoint of any passage. There is no across at all. As defined in the op’s chart, it means “Someone who identifies more female than male.” This could be someone who always identified more female than male. Where’s the journey? Where’s the motion? The definition pretty much fits my mother who always identified more female than male, no trip required. I suggest, instead of the word "transfeminine" we just use the word "feminine."

ehhh...too many syllables like someone else said..

also...

its only "not demeaning" until someone decides they find it offensive.

i remember when tranny/tgirl/transgender was not offensive..hell, when i was in college the local gay bar even had a "tranny night" that was put on by the tgirls in the area.

Transfeminine doesn't bother and seems to fit a part of what I am. I'm a genetic male, but have always been ok with being called 'queer', because that label was so non-descript. I'm definitely gender fluid and more femme than not. I dress as a male 95% of the time, however, I wear panties exclusively. I also wear women's running shoes almost exclusively. I'm ok with just being myself and my wife is generally cool with allowing it.

In short, a transwoman or tgirl IS feminine, that's basically the point. She's transgender to be feminine rather than masculine. As Trish says, there's no "across" involved.

In long, I defer to Trish:

to me Transfeminine sounds like the PC brigade came in to work and thought 'how can we really push the envelope' :)

It sounds a tad extreme to me, like unnecessarily extravagant. Just my opinion though, for what it's worth.

For me Tgirl, or just girl, depending on whether the T needs spelling out.
