Another great jazzman gone...Yusef Lateef who virtually invented the notion of fusion.
The African American musician was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and converted to the Ahmadiya sect of islam in 1950 at the age of 30. (The Ahmadiya are widely considered improper Moslems because they believe in a prophet after Mohammed. They are persecuted in Pakistan and other places. They preach a message of "Love for all, hate for none" which Lateef characterised in his music.) RIP Yusuf.
