View Full Version : New App ideas

Probably I have too much time on my hands but I do like to think of new things...usually they're adapted from things that already exist and put to new use. Here are 2 of my previous ideas and then I'll give you 2 app ideas I have.

1. I worked pumping gas eons ago...in those days, unlike now, stations were mostly filthy operations that maybe had like a crappy vending machine (like the one's you'd put a quarter in and then twist the handle to get the shit out), which basically sold M&M's or maybe stale peanuts.

The one I worked in had a lot of unused space so one day I said to the guy "why don't you fix up the space so it looks nice and sell food, bagels, cake, etc. and have a nice coffee machine too." His response: "you're fuckin nuts...what imbecile would ever buy anything like that from a damn gas station?!"

2. Coffee container lids with pop tops...I remember when pop tops on soda cans first came out...and I distinctly remember walking into a deli the next morning thinking about having a pop top on the coffee container lid, which of course they didn't have...maybe I was like 8 at the time.

It's hard to think of new app ideas because pretty much everything you can think of is out there, but here are 2 that I wasn't able to find:

1. "Is This Escort Real" app. GG and TG escorts post so many fake pics, it's amazing...most of us know how to google search photos and phone numbers on a PC or tablet, but it takes a few steps...wouldn't it be neat to just either:

a. point your hand-held device at a pic on the screen (when you're using a PC) and have let the app do an automatic search.

or

b. you open the app and then start scoping out your next p4p adventure on BP (or wherever) right on your hand-held device...when you see a pic you like, you tap it and the app searches automatically.

It'll have some kind of goofy interface which will summarize the results to make it easier.

The advanced version will let you ID any pornstar you happen to come across and point you to the other stuff they've done, including their FB, instagram, twitter, personal website, etc. if they have it.

And if the pornstar is escorting, it'll point you there, too.

2. "Sports Announcer" app...who doesn't like pretending they're a sports announcer. There can be a library of clips from all different sports to download, or you download a you tube vid and the app makes like a 10 second gif from it...then you record yourself doing the sports call, and of course you then post it to FB, instagram, or your tumblr blog, then tweet when you're done so that everyone can check it out.

Goooooooooooooooooal!! There she goes!! Yes!! He could go all the way!!!!

I've talked to about 50 people regarding the sports announcer app, and everyone loves the idea.

Here's another business idea I came up with recently which basically fills a need that doesn't exist:

A jewelry store (which of course would expand to a chain) that specifically caters to those in the LGBT community who are getting married and need engagement and wedding rings, etc. designed.

A key part of the idea would be that the sales and design staff, for the most part, would be LGBT.

you seem to have a history of coming up with ideas but not executing them

also i disagree with this statement "it's hard to think of new app ideas because pretty much everything you can think of is out there"

i don't think there is an app that calculates how long it would take a terraform a certain planet. you could enter the dimensions for a planetoid, choose a specific distance from it's host star, choose the type of star then depending on the climate, size and type of planetoid, calculate how long it would take to terraform it to be earth-like.

are there any apps that allow one to virtually navigate through the pyramids? or how about an app where you point at a tree and it tells you everything about that tree- like what it's chemical makeup is, how old etc.

but how about we start off a little simpler? how about an app which- when you take a picture of your dick, it automatically adds about 4inches so that when you posted online, it's much bigger than it is in real life?

One idea I did execute was to have beauty salons, barbershops, etc. open on Sunday...you may not believe it but they never used to be...my family had one of the largest salons in NYC when i was a kid and it was open Tues-Sat, but Tues. was always dead...I actually convinced my parents to open it on Sundays and stay closed Mon. and Tues...long story short, they tried it, it worked out very well, but we were the first, at least here.

As far as apps go, I can't code or raise venture capital...but I do have a plan, hopefully someone will make this app and since I have a dated electronic record of having the idea, when the app comes out I'll lawyer up and hopefully get paid a couple of million in nuisance money just to make my lawsuit go away.

The tree app I like, but I want something with a potentially large demand...why not have apps you can point at nearly anything for info...art, buildings, cars, etc.

i don't think that's how it works buddy. you'd need to have a patent or something more tangible than "an electronic record of having the idea" besides- did you know you can change records to reflect any date you want? so i could technically just write the idea for twitter as we know it today, and post it on a site to reflect that i wrote it 5 years ago

Good ideas are a dime for a dozen. It's the execution that counts the most.

Nah, the server will save it...and you have to realize, a few million to make a lawsuit go away is basically chump change...nuisance money for these businesses.

Not good ideas...they're rare...the sports announcer app is a very good idea.

I'll throw another product idea out there for you...men's hair coloring is big business but what happens typically in a few days is that the grey comes back out on the temples and if you want to cover that up you gotta start with the dye again and it's a pain.

Myself, I buy women's mascara and do some touch-up with it but 99% of men won't buy something that's for women...so what we need is the same glop that's in mascara except that you just package it for men...works on facial hair, too.

lol you're funny. chances are, if anyone has a million, they won't want to part with it. and they can probably afford a lawyer who will make sure you don't get it

Yeah man don't patent anything it'll work great! The least amount of peer reviewed documentation possible is the way to go dude! Man the people maintaining those internet servers will be blown away by you're valuable ideas. Then someday they might even call the president to tell them of your new ideas! Woah man that's golden.

Internet Servers!!!!

actually it isn't because you didn't realize that you can't record sound on a gif let alone a 10 second gif

You can't patent ideas anyway...you have to have blueprints, computer code, or something like that for patents.

And if the server here doesn't work it won't matter because I can't do anything with the idea in the first place.

But thanks for the input.

Of course you can, what do you think Vine is? Or GIF-like, video that loops...or something that doesn't loop like on instagram.

Lol...if anyone has a million...I'm telling you, it's chump change...if a 24 year old coding geek was doing this he'd have $20M in VC right off the bat, no prob...you have no idea the money here going into tech right now.

Didn't you say you couldn't make looping videos w/audio a few posts back...no offense, but you're the guy who would have said food at gas stations was a dumb idea...anyway, the real point was the app idea itself.

Agreed.

I think the target audience for the app itself is probably younger than you...or me for that matter...I mean, I wouldn't bother with it myself, it's really for the 18-35 demographic and in your case especially, you're probably lucky if you get to sit down for a couple of hours to even watch a match.

your idea for the sports app (besides being pretty silly) is that "the app makes like a 10 second gif from it."

you can't put sound on a .gif

I'm not knocking the app. (actually didn't even read it) but I work with a lot of VC's and raising that capital isn't easy to do for an app. As it is, you could probably build an app. like this (read it now) for under $20k so anyone investing more would be pretty silly.

Maybe $20k for the code, I really don't know...but with an app like this I would think there needs to be licensing because, for example, you can't use video of the NFL without their consent and that obviously means lawyers, upfront fees, etc.

Yeah that's a fair point but I don't see it being a million dollar/multi-million dollar sales app. either.

I also don't believe you simply writing it down would have any legal bearing or anyone would pay to make you go away.

That last part was me trying to be funny, so I really don't know...but I do think the app itself would find a good-sized audience, especially with posting the calls you make directly to FB, IG, etc.
