I found this movie while shopping for hardware. Transamerica (http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4824910). It's fictional based and not porn material.

Has anyone ever seen it before? Was it good? Yes, no?

It doesn't come out until the 23rd.

Where have u been this pass year?

Have you seen the cover of the dvd for sale? Its so innacurate, its showing felicity huffmans pic from desperate houswives on the front, she looks nothing like that in the film.,

I liked it, although as Angela indicates there was some absurdity in some of the situations that developed, especially with her family. I liked her interaction with her doctor and always love Grahame Greene, who has a nice role in the movie. Mostly I thought that Huffman was a good choice to play Bree, being that Bree was not intended to be an Allanah Starr or Gia Darling sort of TS beauty, but a fairly ordinary, early-middle-aged man transitioning into womanhood.

I really liked it, it was a touch more outrageous than I normally like but it was a really good example of a road movie, so many great eccentric characters.

i think the film ia poigniant, hysterical, and touching-

the scene where she is gonna 'steal' the tip and the cowboy is watching her so she just reaches over and eats the harlf eaten french fry is priceless (her face) while her son is turning a date in the back of a van

i saw it recently on a transatlantic flight and though ti was great.

i thought i saw a small fraction of it on the independent channel
on cable television before seeing the entire film
from beginning to end on DVD release.

TransAmerica seems a bit slow moving at times for my taste
especially when "felicity huffman" and her dysfuntional son begin
their journey to LA , but overrall it's wasn't a bad film at all.
i'll probably watch it again at some point.

i did find the DVD extras regardiing the actor/actress
and the making of the film interesting.

I saw the movie and thought it was good. I feel that Filicity Huffman was amazing at playing a ts. I liked the movie Beautiful Boxer much better. It touched me and made me cry!

I enjoyed the movie.

I did find it touching, poignant, and at time very amusing
as Alannah has stated (BTW, Allanah I must be flying on
the wrong airlines, mine always saw me some edited to
Hell schlock)

I have seen just about every transsexual movie (non porn)
ever made. One day I will list them. In my opinion they tend
to be flawed in one way or another.

Felicity Huffman was good in the role of Bree, and Bree comes
across as likable. Though she is wound as tight as a cat in a
room full of rocking chairs.

And while I am a proponent of every womens right to undergo
SRS, Bree just didn't strike me as ready for that step. Also I
hope that she was getting a discount on her psychotherapy,
as her reliance on her therapist was to say the least dependent,
clingy, and needy.

One would think that a woman who had been in life
(not neccesarily 'the life') but who was a mature women
would have better coping skills, but hey who am I to judge.
A fleet of U-Haul truck follows me wherever I go, because I
have so much baggage.

In summation, Transamerica is a good movie, I daresay a must
see movie for any one interested in the subject. I also
applaud Hollywood for more and more tackling this subject.

However as I have stated I have seen a lot of movies in this
genre, and I don't feel that any of them truly tells our story.

Guess we will have to do it ourselves.

I rented it from Blockbusters for £1.00 and was let down. It was basically a parent and kid travel a lot and try to bond movie which we've seen dozens of times, only difference is that the parent was TG.

For a similiar (but utterly fucked up) movie check out Asia Argento's film, The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things, which I recommended on another thread. It's about a mother and son road-trip that includes child rape, alcoholism, drug-addiction, Jesus freaks, beatings and more. It's not for the faint of heart.

After reading about Beautiful Boxer and going to the site, I put it in my list for Netflix. It looks real interesting and well done. It received many awards

Though i have been thinking about trying the Blockbuster
dealio, that way I could do mail / online / and brick
and mortar.

Beautiful Boxer is my favorite film about a transsexual woman and her struggles in transition: not only that, but it works superbly as a metaphor for anyone overcoming great obstacles with determination, heart and soul to attain their dream, whatever it might be.

Princessa is another must-see transsexual film, though largely because it ends sadly (though not so sadly as Francesca's life did) I don't like it as much as Boxer. But it's very authentic, as such movies go, and reflects (from what I know and have read) "the life" as experienced by a Brazilian TS who moves to Italy for her SRS and gets caught up in the prostitution scene.

Both of these are richly based in real life. Parinya Charoenphol continues to inspire, as she has at times returned to the ring (virtually forbidden in Thai culture for a woman) and she is teaching Muay Thai boxing to young girls (also forbidden).

Ecstatic, I concur with you about Princessa.

In my opinion it is one of the few movies that accurately
portrays the life of a transwoman.

It shows what she must endure as a sex worker on the 'stroll'
in Milan with all the problems inherent to that.

It shows how a transwomam must juggle with deciding
whether to have SRS, and then how in the Hell to make
that happen.

And finally it shows the love life of a TS with a ll of it's ups and downs.

Truly one of the most accurate depictions of a transwomen's life
from my viewpoint.

A must see movie.

Absolutely, Peggy. My only regret is that the movie is so sad: what can I say, I'm a sucker for a happy ending. But it's a very well-made movie, sensitively told, with some decent acting.

!!!Teaser Alert!!!

The first scene that grabbed me was right at the beginning, when she was forced to have sex with the customs official, showing how degrading it can be and how powerless she was. Her madam was very well portrayed. The plot complication with her lover's wife showing up pregnant was a bit forced, but the way she coped with the emotional roller coaster of wanting SRS, almost getting it, and backing away and back to the stroll was very powerful. And it is all based on a true story (as is Beautiful Boxer).

I just watched beautiful boxer . It had been recommended to me quite a while ago and I put in on my netflix list. Then I quit my subscription. When I started it up again they just continued with what I had in queue and low and behold it arrived...but I digress...
I have to admit I wasn't ready for the film when I began watching but quickly realized it was going to need all my attention. Fascinating film. 'Life in the Ring' is a strong metaphor. Two enthusiastic thumbs up

Makes me miss Thailand :(

Every few months I watch Princessa, your synopsis of it
made me recall many of it's poignant moments.

It's time to dust it off again.
