Former Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez void of emotions during arraignment on murder charges

2 hours 32 minutes ago

Aaron Hernandez (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/24088) stood with his hands cuffed in front of him, wearing a white, V-neck T-shirt and a look mostly devoid of emotion. This was inside Attleboro District Court in Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon, just feet away as a prosecutor read off a web of evidence that put him at the scene of Odin Lloyd's death 10 days ago and led to this most serious of charges: Murder for the former New England Patriots tight end (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/aaron-hernandez-charged-murder-184503162.html). If Hernandez felt any fear over charges that could take him from the glory of the NFL to a life sentence, he didn't show it. If he felt any emotion over the death of his one-time friend, even as Lloyd's mother had to leave the courtroom (http://nfl.cpl.delvenetworks.com/player/carousel/yahoo.html?mediaId=c4ba4f67ea564396bf582939e6ce041 d), he didn't show it. If he was moved to anger about the judge denying him bail as he awaits trial, he didn't show it. Aaron Hernandez is led out of the North Attleborough police station after being arrested June 26. (REUTERS)He was mostly calm and unmoved, eyes wide open and only occasionally reaching his cuffed hands up and rubbing his face. Meanwhile, Bristol County prosecutor William McCauley went on and on for more than 20 minutes laying out a case where via text messages, cell phone tower contact and surveillance video showed Hernandez and Lloyd traveling together to North Attleboro, a bedroom community south of Boston where Hernandez lived on the day Lloyd was found dead.
The state charges that the previous Friday night, Hernandez and Lloyd were at a Boston club together, and that Hernandez was upset with Lloyd for associating with people whom he had a previous disagreement. The state says it has video from Hernandez's house of Hernandez saying, hours before Lloyd's body was found, "you can't trust anyone anymore." It contends that Hernandez then drove Lloyd to a dark area near an industrial park where, between 3:23 a.m. and 3:27 a.m. on June 17, Hernandez and two other men shot Lloyd five times, execution style. Police have not found a murder weapon and didn't reveal any specific evidence that showed Hernandez was a/the triggerman, although it alleges he delivered all five bullets into Lloyd's body. A slew of video evidence put Hernandez, at the very least, there for the murder. At the scene there were bullets, casings and even a piece of chewed gum. Hernandez pleaded not guilty to murder as well as five other weapons charges. His attorney, Michael Fee, declared the case "circumstantial" and "weak" when asking for bail for the football player. "We look forward to our day in court," Fee said. So too, it appears does the state. Wednesday's developments began at 8:45 a.m., with state police hauling Hernandez out of his McMansion in cuffs with a T-shirt pulled over his upper body as news crews filmed the perp walk. Suddenly, what went from reports of obstruction of justice charges resulted in far more serious charges. If the state's case is correct, it is the latest example of a life of a 23-year-old who was seemingly on top of the world – rich, famous and with young child and fiancée back at home instead choosing to live a life out of some bad gangster movie. This isn't a crime of passion. This wasn't an instant decision or accidental shooting. This was cold and calculated, a grown man with a $41.1 million contract trying to settle some juvenile sign of disrespect in the most pathetic way-of-the-street imaginable. Hernandez isn't from a troubled family. He isn't from a terrible neighborhood in Bristol, Conn. He isn't a young kid. He's had a support system available for years and years looking to help him with whatever emotional issues he was dealing with – his football value made everyone want to help. Aaron Hernandez is led away from his home by police Wednesday morning. (Getty Images)
Instead he was involved in incident after incident, the final one, the state says, is this indefensible homicide. A punk execution of a friend for talking with the wrong people? It's almost unfathomable, the kind of crime an emotional teen would make, not someone of means and even moderate maturity. On the drive down from Boston, Odin Lloyd knew he was in trouble, texting his sister and asking her if she knew who he left the club with, seemingly offering up a clue in case this went as bad as it did. "NFL," Lloyd texted her. Minutes later he was killed like it was a mob hit, the prosecution alleges, only it was a clumsy crew of wannabe gangsters that did it, ones that left so many clues behind it didn't take long for the cops to bag it all together.
So Wednesday, there was Aaron Hernandez – "NFL" – standing unfazed in a court room listening to the evidence against him, his whole life on the line now and his ability to catch footballs is no longer able to save him.

Oh! yes: he has to pay like anyone else.
In some cases, it gets to be much sadder; I think of lovely Amy Winehouse, recently, for instance. There's a level of self-guilt that sometimes turn to masochism, with some people. Little bears that haven't been licked properly, often. It's shitty.

Derek, unprovoked attack on my Lions! Lol. I'll never understand how some athletes, who seemingly have everything, will piss it all away in the blink of an eye. Unless it's a case of self defense, I can't think of any reason to kill someone and this was perpetrated in such a clumsy, pathetic manner that I can't imagine what the hell was going through his mind. And he had plenty of time to think it through and do the right thing. Boggles the mind....

Hey Coach, I have this little problem and can you come bail me out like you did the last time. You've helped so many with similar problems and the rules of this legal system are pretty much like penalties - OK it's a 15 yard one this time, but I can get those yards back.

Aaron- Please don't call here any more, you have been released from the team. BTW your paycheck stops today too.

Coach? Coach? ..... Mommy!

I think he is fried, or will be.

This type of stuff is bound to happen when you roll the dice and hire someone with a questionable background.

I bets the Pats thought they drafted a 1st-round bargain at a 4th-round price, there was a reason why so many teams passed him up.

It came back to bite them in the ass like never before, the "Belicheck Way" is forever tarnished.

The media sure made a lot of money from what OJ did. I might have been the last idiot on my side of town that still thought he was innocent. Too nice a guy.

Now he can be the thug he fantasized to be. The handcuffs, the orange jumpsuits, the gang affiliation designation, living the life through the lyrics of so-called rap. He's got it all now. I hope he's got a good thump game because somebody is going to knock his ass out just to catch a rep off of him

You know when I think back to when I was a kid and idolizing Lyle Alzado and the shit he did off the field (from a 1984 People's magazine, "...and the 35-year-old maniacal-looking Alzado makes himself out to be a kind of sociopathic Will Rogers. "I never knew a man," he jokes, "that I didn't want to fight."), but we considered them bad boys. Now the game has escalated from simple fighting to having a thug life with guns and knives.

From my understanding Hernandez grew up in a bad area so having friends growing up probably kept him alive or running with a bad group kept him alive. So breaking him from that group of people is not going to be easy, especially if they had his back more often than not. And the sad part is, there is no easy way to get them out of that mentality. Have them break away from those friends (true friends - through thick and thin), and finding people who are his friends only because of his name and money in my opinion is worse than the former.

Listening to the radio and hearing people who want to blame the NFL, the Patriots, the Agent, the parent(s), the government...blah blah blah. Sorry but in honesty he is a big boy, he is an adult (23 is adult right?). There is no one to blame but himself, he knew the consequences. However, if he is given a lesser charge and given a few years in jail...he'll be back in a uniform - worked well for Mike Vick.

NO he wasn't. He grew up in Bristol Ct. There are NO gangsters in Bristol. There are lots of WANNABE gangsters but the real ones are in Hartford. He's the type that wanted to be down with that lifestyle, and so with his athletic talent and money brought the respect and lifestyle of the gang affiliation. The real gang bangers probably treated him like shit which is why he acted out in the ways they said he did. He was trying to prove himself, earn the street cred that money can't always buy. Now he is right there where he had fantasized to be. He'll be celebrated, maybe even protected to a degree, but his own people are going to lump him up just to let him know he is in their territory where they are king not on the football field

Neighborhoods that people think are so nice aren't devoid of violence, crime and gangs. Even if he didn't put in work in a terrible ghetto there is photographic evidence of him being blood or blood related from at least 6 years ago at age 17 before the fame and money. Even then if he was just posing the Bristol Bloods have been around for a while and there is no reason to think he hasn't been dirty for a while. He may not have been a murder all his life but a gang member(gangster) is on thing he has been.

Very true. I believe all the charges except for the murder 1. He might be responsible for the guys death but I don't think it was premeditated and refuse to believe he acted alone if he even pulled a trigger. I would bet that he spends some time in prison but only plea deals and turning on whoever else was with him.

I understand that. It is easy to believe which is one of the reasons I want to wait for more non circumstantial evidence to come out. It is so easy to believe that any dumb thug could have come up with the plan and set the guy up. So far no weapon just chewed gum and matching shell casings in a rented car. If that is all it takes to be called guilty before a trial then we are all fucked...............oh and I guess that 2012 double murder investigation doesn't help.

He was caught red-handed. He is going to need blunders by the prosecution or a great defense to beat these charges.
